Bunged-up, damaged. He built a structure around the trees to discourage wagons from hitting the trunk or kids from chopping them down.

Yes, Shartlesville is where Roadside America was. The location is marked on the map a couple posts above. I doubt RA is is open anymore. Some years ago they were looking for a buyer.
