That place reminds me of a scene from the movie REDS where Marvin (John Malkovich) lived in the swamps
Re: Got wood?
So my buddy wanted to have one of these old-school gas pumps in his garage but he was too cheap to buy the $1200 model so he bought this resin front with the globe on top. He’s the type of guy that steps over dollars to pick up dimes. Anyway, I agreed to help him with this project.
You can see the photo of a real one with a retro top. He wanted to attach this resin body to a basically square wooden box. I’m like there’s no way I can do that in good conscience while the top is round so I brainstormed it a bit and figured out a way to make it out of wood. I think it looks much better this way. The third photo shows how he wanted to do it. The final photo shows how it should be done. Now we’re brainstorming how to complete the bottom. By the time it’s all said and done will have $400 in wood and $5000 in labor now you see why I say he’s the type of guy that steps over dollars to pick up dimes

Wow, that's a piece of art Greg!

It really is beautiful and brings back great memories of the 50's and 60's gas pumps. Your buddy is quite a wood worker and has some nice equipment. That Festool vacuum is a real winner, like all their tools.
Where did he come up with the decals for the for the gauges?

Thank you! Actually I made the carcass. He just painted it, meaning the wood parts. The pics help explain what’s going on. He bought the front which comes just as you see it in the bottom 2 pics. The gauges are a cardboard cut out behind plexiglass with a light behind it to illuminate it. The top is a retro globe with a mounting collar.
I layered out the top to that concave shape to give it depth. He attached the front and then painted the sides.
