Nah, too sophisticated,

Which one?

I actually thought it a clever bit of art.....although I'm perplexed as to what one might do with it other than to look at pictures of it.

Kinda of a long story but I made this inlay 20+ years ago with the intent of putting it in our foyer. I had some other components I made to go with it. In short it was way to fancy for our foyer. Our kitchen remodel grew into other areas of our home including our foyer. Finally after 20+ years it’s finally been installed! I literally thought at some point I would send it off with one of the kids to put in their home

Yes, very nice - what woods were used?

Thank you all for your nice comments. :D and No Robert she is not going to put a table on it
The idea was for the walls to match the Purple Heart wood in the inlay. It looks close now, but my experience has been that the Purple Heart will turn almost black over time.

Only 4 species of woods in this inlay. We call this a rose window which were found in churches of all kinds. Here is an example of one from google. Google ‘rose window’ and you’ll find many examples. I re worked the one I liked in autocad and printed a 1:1 print for my templates. From there it was lots of time and tears at the scroll saw.

I did a floor with that maple once - 5/4" thick - rock maple - took special nails....

Always wanted to play with some Brazilian cherry....nice looking wood.

Dog(s) have torn up the oak floors here. No amount of sanding would likely bring them back. That’s some lovely work, Greg, but here the dogs would lay/drool/pant all over it. Couldn’t risk it, lol.

Thank you Paul! Wood floors are difficult to reconcile between beauty and durability. Mine have suffered through 4 kids and occasional pets throughout the years. I’m making my kids crazy since they’ve been refinished but they are old enough to to understand what being careful means. I put a new black walnut floor in our kitchen that is stained ebony. It’s very dark and it shows everything but that’s what my wife wanted. I cringe when the kids go in there
