Full time railroad workers
Full time railroad workers
I wonder how many MTJ users are actual railroad workers in any position?
Not model railroads. Rail workers on full size railroads of any gauge would count.
My father, step father and two uncles all worked for the Pennsy but I have NO actual railroad experience.
Those mentioned above really spiked my interest in railroads and made me a model railroader and railroad watcher.
I think we have several railroad workers here.

So your railroad employment experience is the reason for the avatar picture, not tourism?

My great-grandfather is as close as I get.

Same here. He worked for the MP. I still have his employee rail pass in a leather holder that he used daily.

I suspect there are several retired GM's out there who might characterize my work as necessary if incredibly agitating.
Re: Full time railroad workers
Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. I have been hiding in the background for a while and decided to join. Love the forum. I am a retired railroader. Started my career on the FWD (BN) in early 80's. Ended it at Farmrail in Western Oklahoma. Loving retirement!!!

Re: Full time railroad workers
Have 7 years with couple of freight RRs and 26 years with Amtrak,
does that count?
Also had uncle in the "old country" who was an engineer of the
non-locomotive variety for a railway supplier, but who served
during his "prakticum semester" in the 1930's as an engineer
of the locomotive variety for the Deusche Reichsbahn (DR).
Allegedly an ancestor emigrated in the mid-1800's and became
a railroad civil engineer in upstate New York, but haven't tracked
that one down yet.
So, is love of railroads a hereditary or an acquired taste?
does that count?

Good start butI feel sure that there are more railroad connected MTJers than indicated so far.
Hope we hear from more.
I also would lile to hear some of your personal railroading experiences.

Re: Full time railroad workers
My son is an engineer working as a CSX conductor so he can "hold" a job. Works out of Parsons Yard. Great grandfather worked on the NW. My father's good friend was wreckmaster on the C&O/Chessie out of Parsons. My next door neighbor when I was a young boy, in Conneaut was a NKP engineer. He had a wall full of model steam locomotives. I'm surrounded.

The closest that I can come is a great-grandfather (or grandfather) on Mother's side that was a Master Coach Painter for Osgood-Bradley in Worcester, MA.

You're kidding me, right? Why wouldn't I?
First, this thread , started by Roger, asks about railroad experience, "...actual railroad workers in any position" among us.
Second, to that question, you replied, "Retired."
Third, In your avatar photo, you seem to be at the helm of a locomotive and dressed for the responsibility. No?
Have I exercised too much imagination? Too far a leap?

No, I am not kidding you.
Roger asked: "I wonder how many MTJ users are actual railroad workers in any position?"
So we know the subject matter. To which I answered "Retired". Which I obviously mistakenly assumed (once again I forgot to listen to Demo Dick) one would realize that I once worked for the railroad.
Ergo, why in the wide wide world of sports would you think that I had anything to do with "TOURISM"?
I have made no assumptions about your avatar, although you may be giving me a reason to do so.
