I've never laughed so hard or been so disgusted in my life at some of the things they did on The Gong Show.

But it was entertaining

Mr. Barris was a class act and probable deniability is always built in. Alter ego or fact prove it.

Could be, but if someone told you the answer, they might have to kill you.

Chuck Barris (June 3, 1929 – March 21, 2017) used the CIA lie as an irony to make a point against his critics in the novel, "1984 book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (An Unauthorized Autobiography.)

In interviews after the book came out, he was always asked, "Were you a CIA agent?" To which he always answered, "No, I was never a CIA agent."

Barris fabricated his life because it was the best way of getting at the truth. The truth was that back when he was the Jerry Springer of his day, he couldn't stomach being attacked for doing something he considered harmless. So Barris wrote in the book that his first CIA assignment was to collect intel on Martin Luther King Jr. and later became a CIA assassin. "People forget the point of the book," he says. "Here I was, getting crucified by critics for entertaining people and getting medals for killing them." IRONY

Barris was Lying to Tell the Truth.

In the reference above, Time Magazine states, concerning the book's claim Barris was a CIA assassin, "...a claim he still refuses to say was untrue."
