The lady at Glen Aplin... her dress is so short! Why, you can see her ankles--shocking! What is this world coming to?

Hemlines rose rapidly in the ten years between 1960 and 1970.

1970

Just a few comments on all the folks waiting for the train....

The first photo that Wayne submitted causes me to wonder whether the young lady
has a death wish...not only is she sitting in the gauge of what appears to be quite well-travelled
tracks, but she is also sitting in the middle of what also appears to be a well-used roadway grade
crossing. I just wish she'd have chosen to sit elsewhere. Guess all those safety talks have
had a residual effect. But least she's not stepping on the rail.

The next picture of the young lady waiting, sitting on her suitcase in the rain (seems to be a well-done
painting--perhaps even ironically, a watercolor, Wayne?), and the group waiting at the Glen Aplin
station...no comment. Typical train-waiting back at the turn of the previous century?

As for Rufus' shot....is that a front view of the persons whose derriere has graced some of his earlier MTJ posts?

And for the last shot that Wayne posted of the 1970's gal...well! Her ankles aren't the only thing she is showing
(wish I were there?)!!

Why do so many train waiting shots feature female waiters...where are the men? Waiting in the nearest...hobby shop?
The nearest bar? Hiding behind the camera?

I could find no information on the "Waiting in the Rain" painting... could not even read the artist's name.

There are an equal number of men in "Waiting for the Train" photos and paintings.


My eyes seem to be attracted to those with women as the main subject, so I picked those to start this topic.

Do you remember what Adam said when he laid eyes on the first woman he had ever seen?

I'm not sure "Black Vinyl Woman" and "Ms Take A Look Up Here Anytime Ya Wanna" are what Adam had in mind, but then I never was a Bible scholar.

The very short skirt, as seen in one of the above photos, was going pretty good when I was teaching in Kentucky [the home of beautiful horses and fast
women] in the 1970s One of the girls in my band assumed that same posture when putting her flute case on the floor. She knew what she was doing. She glanced back under her arm and said without a blush "Ah,ah Mr.Roush.I caught you". I said "If you didn't want men to look you wouldn't do that". Then she blushed.
