This article is interesting if you have the time to read it. Quite different from the days of Ford vs Ferrari.

The Le Mans Cadillac car headlights must have been designed by same engineer who designed the recent tail lights for production Cadillacs.

Tesse? Did he mean tease? What is the definition of tesse anyway?

I'm curious. Did Mercedes ever have a 4 speed manual on the steering column?

Yes.

Some vehicles have a column shift where the lever is mounted on the steering column — in vehicles with a manual four-speed gearbox such as 1950s Mercedes-Benz cars and all two-stroke Trabants, this is actually a manual gear lever connected to the gearbox with a linkage.

"One of the most dangerous situation I have faced while driving during early mornings and at nights is when driving down a 2 lane highway, suddenly the car coming from opposite direction turns towards my direction. Suddenly I jam the brakes, thinking the other person made a sudden decision to turn. Both of us stop in panic and the other person shouts "Can't you see I have put the turn signal ?".
Well thats where things get complicated. Actually he had put the turn signal, but since the turn indicator is just next to the headlight housing due to the brightness of the headlamps the turn signals cant even be seen ! "

"I have noticed, and I have been appalled by, the apparently deliberate decision by some automobile manufacturers to extinguish one headlight whenever a turn signal is activated."

There should be regulations on headlight lumens. I’ve been blinded at night by what often times end up being low beams from an oncoming vehicle.

Kids with jacked up trucks with blinding light bars on top. Doesn’t seem to be any penalty for having lights so bright they endanger oncoming traffic.

Wayne, thank you so much for that info regarding the Mercedes with 4 sp on the column. I came across that fact years ago .But the other day when I mentioned it to somebody who knows much more Mercedes then me, I was informed that was not the case. The adventure with the other individual continues! LOL

As far as an approaching vehicle putting their turn signal on, that does not give them the right of way to turn in font of an oncoming vehicle.

I have heard of 4 speeds on the column before, but I don't recall the marque/marques.

In the early sixties I had a Borgward Isabella Kombi (station wagon) that had 4 on the column. Interesting car until the motor blew up.
Wouldn’t mind having it today.

When I was a lad, a friend had an old Simca beater car that we hot rodded around in their field. We never saw high gear, but it had a 4 on the tree.

Mitch, I think you and I are fairly close to the same vintage because I can't recall talking about that kind of stuff in eons. I've always been an aficionado of the manual transmission as it makes you think a bit more about what you are doing, and thus more aware.

I think that went away with the standardized sealed beams. Guessing Mitch would have some insight as that was his bread and butter.
