Royal Enfield
Re: Royal Enfield
Somebody went to a lot of work to make that. Clever frame design. Must be a bear to pedal with the high rolling resistance of those big tires. Those tires aren't cheap.

Maybe it has those hidden motors that some racers have used.

Re: Royal Enfield
Pope motorcycle and rider at Maryland's old Laurel Speedway, November 25, 1915:
Pope manufactured motorcycles and mopeds at their plant in Westfield, Massachusetts, 1902-1918 (according to the Wik). At one time their Model L was the fast production bike in the world.
Note the pedals; was this common for motorcycles of the era, or is this a moped, also manufactured by Pope (although much later)?

Re: Royal Enfield
They became Columbia bicycle. If you look at that motorcycle. you'll notice it has overhead valves. I have a pair of those heads. My dream was to buld a bike around them. Then i realized what it would cost! Now i keep parading the pair in front of a guy that needs them. He is so damn cheap. That he won't pay $5,000 for the pair. When finished his bike will be $90-100,000.

What is the contraption made of pipe on the bike in the foreground?

Re: Royal Enfield
Stunt bike for a drill team. The guy driving it climbs up and balances himself. Sometimes three people hang from it. I’ll look for some other photos. Bud Ekins, I believe.

Re: Royal Enfield
The local Harley dealer is now also a dealer for Royal Enfield. It’s a bit jarring to see the two makes side by side.
Re: Royal Enfield
Old guy down the street just bought a new motorcycle, a BMW GTL 1600. Seemed nice enough if you’re walking around the house lighting your cigar with hundred-dollar bills, but all the fiberglass or carbon fiber bits looks a bit silly to me. The thing that stunned me a bit was that it’s packing a transverse-mounted 1.6 liter inline-six...holy crap, when did they start putting six-cylinder plants in motorcycles? I’ve not been paying attention, perhaps for quite some time.
Re: Royal Enfield
Don't know how to break this to ya healey, but look up the Honda Gold Wing. It comes with a water-cooled 6 cyl, and has been available for years. Drive shaft, of course. No chain. Smooth as silk.

Re: Royal Enfield
Briefly jointly-owned a 1000cc Suzuki some 25 years ago; that had a 4-cyl water-cooled plant. It was a scary beast that we jettisoned in short order for fear of personal safety, lol. Never realized there were more than 4-cyl motors in motorcycles. We still have a rarely-ridden Honda Rebel of 450cc 2-cyl...plenty enough for me back when I was still riding.
Re: Royal Enfield
I had a Honda CRX car 1600, also a Honda Del Sol car1600 it had 160 HP.
