New Zealand church has no glass. That is an iron framework that is supporting the trees until they are old/strong enough to support themselves at which point the iron work will be removed.

The church in Palo Verdes is quite beautiful/distinctive but also stands in isolation from the surroundings, more like a bubble. You can see/enjoy the outside world but it is "outside". No sound, no smells (given where it's located that may not be a disadvantage), no breeze, no butterflies, ...

Instead of being an actual part of the world around you, you sit/stand in isolation. A viewer instead of an active participant.

When I lived in eastern Kentucky, most Saturdays I would walk into the hills for several hours.
This was 1952 -1956 when I was an undergrad and 1969-1975 when I was a grad *** and
my wife finished her BS.I would be asked ,usually by students what I did and, sometimes,
go they go along. Sure. Why not? It always came down to what are we going to do? A few
seemed to understand that the purpose was to get away from as many man-made sounds
as possible and listen to and observe nature and natural things.
Some how that never seemed to be possible in southeast Georgia.

Maybe they were smart enough to understand how much damage ivy can cause and stopped it from getting there?

That's very true about ivy damaging masonry. My understanding is that it gradually breaks down the mortar by crumbling it and moving it out bit by bit.

The ivy roots into the mortar and over time breaks and degrades it. It may look nice or whatever, but it's destructive stuff. Neighbors planted some English Ivy. It come up through their fence and I've been pulling it from my yard and off the trees for years. Hard stuff to kill. Right up there with bamboo!
