Re: Time for Church
I can't recall if I've posted this before, but here's a shot of the interior of the former St. John church in Westminster, Maryland:
This is the Catholic church I went to when I was a kid. It was an awesome building, built in the 1860s in the gothic-revival style, definitely one designed to instill the fear of God in you. Even this picture doesn't do it justice. It had a really high ceiling, and there was a lot of tall stained glass windows, a pair of dark wood confessionals in the back, along with a massive wrought iron stand for votives and a big pipe organ in the balcony. When you were in there, you knew you were in church. In the late 1960s or early 1970s, it was determined that the building had some serious structural problems, much of which caused by an infestation of termites. The building was torn down and a new "church in the round" built on the edge of town. The new building was pretty sterile compared to this mini-cathedral we'd enjoyed, and it, together with the heavy-handed fund-raising efforts by the parish, was at least one of the reasons I lost interest in the whole thing. Some people say it shouldn't be about the building, but for me, it was definitely about that place.

Never heard of Fannettsburg, so I looked it up. A lot of restrictions in Fannettsburg:
They need to correct the spelling on the sign.

Up Rt 75 from Rt 30.....
If that's the old German Reformed Church, that's a good 1/4 mile north out of Fannetsburg proper. That's a very old church....

Re: Time for Church
I dont get it - why would somebody want to use such a device there and why would its use be forbidden? Very strange, to me, but I may be too unsophisticated to imagine what’s up with that.

Very strange to me as well; suspect it's the result of some local mythology or fable, but one I've never heard of......
I'll have to ask about..
