Wishful thinking, :!:
Your body is not a temple. It’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.

What a funereal discussion.

Which reminds me, be sure and specify a safety coffin in your will, just in case you were just funning about being dead.

Hi Wayne, In Hamburg, PA, next to the hall where the occasional train-show is held, there is an old cemetery. In it (I've taken walks there as I have awaited the show to open) are several very old, yet sturdy, above-ground one-room mausoleums, built for one or a couple persons. I noticed that two of them had a chain and its fixture protruding on the outside, near the rear of the structure.

I believe that us where - that custom - was where we got the term "wake" when referencing the recently deceased. As I understand some of the history of the custom, since a clear understanding of comas and other medical conditions was still in its infancy, the bereaved were worried that a person could have been buried alive, so a chain and bell were provided, with the chain leading directly into the hands of the deceased, in the coffin, with its attendant bell attached at the end of the chain outside the stone structure, so that a erroneously declared dead person, upon waking and realizing where he was, could ring the bell for rescue and resumption of life outside the cemetery.

Presumably, folks who could not afford such a structure and were buried under the ground could , if having been in some kind of coma, discover they had been, indeed, buried alive.

I received the latest OGR Run (307) in the mail, today, and have especially enjoyed an article in it dedicated to Mr. Kughn, "Remembering Richard Kughn."

One of the photos included featured his wife, Linda, who I especially enjoyed speaking with each time she visited my booth with him in the Orange Hall @ York, PA, several times. She seemed quietly indulgent of all that was transpiring around her in that hall, and generated by and around him, and was constantly supportive of what interested him at the booth. More than a few times, his late-show purchases wiped me out of just about everything . I really appreciated his friendly approach and patronage which was its own particular kind of fun.

But most importantly , he was a icon that it was totally enjoyable to keep company with , even if just for those short visits.

I liked him a lot.
