Whatzit?
Re: Whatzit?
Interesting. I've lived in the south half of my life and never heard of pokeweed or poke salad until Hondo posted this.

That is surprising; I've known about it forever but that semi-rural upbringing does teach a few things,

Re: Whatzit?
Even with the treaty limitations ONE Trident boat could blow Russia back to the stone age. The calculations put either side would only need to deliver about 100 warheads to reduce the other side to total rubble. With the D-5 missile some of the boats now operate in the Indian Ocean (probably out of Diego Garcia, you can sometimes see one on Google Earth) and they have sufficient range to attack from the south.
Next gen FBMS will be a little smaller. While the Tridents are exceptionally quiet they are also extremely large. Instead of looking for noises from the boat you look for a lack of background sound that seems to be able to more around, aka a "hole" in the water. Some of the stealth planes have the opposite issue, look for the air turbulence the plane generates instead of the plane itself.

It is Phytolacca americana Hondo74. It is a toxic weed but like many poisonous plants, there are ways to prepare it (the leaves) for eating that lessen the toxicity to tolerable levels.

Why, on Earth, would somebody do that? We don't have enough plants that we are eating now?

No, not full, at least not entirely so as some of it escapes and irritates large numbers of electrons and photons......

Poop agitated photons? Just what sort of danger are we in, at the hands of poop agitated photons?

The POINT wasthe special preparation of a poisonous plant's leaves for consumption by humans.
Why bother?
We have plenty of plants available as food. We are not so desperate that we need to harvest the poisonous ones, too. And of course its possible that if we were to start specially preparing such plants, some folks would likely develop aversions and serious reactions to them just by touching them, before they ever even get to a kitchen for special preparations to "lessen the toxicity." Eh? Huh?
It's been consumed for centuries - nothing new here - and I doubt that it's the only plant food source that has some/all aspects being poisonous. Of course, you could be sustained on a steady and exclusive diet of Brussels sprouts and calimari

Maybe he's referring to passing gas?
If so, then we continue to be in danger.

Re: Whatzit?
Plant toxicity is nothing new. Tapioca is about as innocuous as it gets, gluten (and taste) free. Often served in hospitals and to the very young and very old. It is the the third most popular carbohydrate crop in the tropics only surpassed by corn and rice. The cassava plant it is derived from has high levels of cyanide and the plant has to be processed properly to remove the toxins. Those toxins make it less attractive to non human pests and the processing makes it less attractive to theft by human pests (win/win).

I gather you can add Tofu to the list of plants that need to be detoxified.
