That's a highly significant, poignant viewpoint. Such thinking could be its own thread, really getting, at the very least, to the real heart of what's being discussed here so far.

We know the truth when we hear or read or see it. We may not be able to explain or describe why we know something is the truth. Paintings . Prayer. Music. Statements. Literature . They're successful when we sense their truth.

That doesn't mean we can't be lied to, or that there aren't masterful liars out there. We may not be able to detect the lie, but we sure know the truth when we experience it.

That's my opinion. That's my truth.

Kind of. If you can call being imprisoned in an inter dimensional space inside a shrine to yourself by the mother of your child "lost" than I guess he was lost. Come to think of it, his son gets him out and then he does wander off, somewhere. You'd think being a pivotal character would warrant better treatment.

On Murphy's posting regarding truth. I normally study a film I like to try to see why I like it. Those two films we far too effective at resonating with something inside. I get/got it and repeating the experience will not add anything I wish to re experience.

Series six of Bosch has a running theme throughout the arc about two kinds of truth. Too many times people confuse truth with facts. Truth revolves around what someone believes. They believe that they are stating facts. They could be wrong and still not be lying if they believe what they are saying. Conversely some one could present facts and claim they are telling the truth when they know they are not.

Yes, 5+ books revolve about a primary character that just fades...

And there are a number of films that I have seen and felt were exception, and never wanted to see again. There are also a number of films that I thought were total rubbish that remain alive on cable TV seemingly forever.......

I had not been aware that the original "Alien" had been re-done (circa 2017, I believe). Yet, there it was on TV last night, which I came across via casual channel-surfing, with newly interpreted visuals and characters, and a further detailing of the Alien itself. It got me involved (note I did not say engrossed) enough to have gotten pretty ticked-off at the machine-human-like character for the traitor he effected by the end. I had suspected he was such, but I "enjoyed" how right I was, and yet unsure, about his serpentine qualities, parallel to the Alien's, yet exercised differently, at the story's "end".

It always amazes me how Hollywood seems to run low on fresh ideas and is either redoing old movies or trying to do movies that were impossible to do a few decades ago due to lack of CGI. I can enjoy CGI, but it doesn't make up for a bad storyline, direction or acting.

The 2017 movie is actually a prequel to the original movie in terms of timeline. This film is actually the bridge between "Prometheus" and Alien and fills in background on the franchise, aka who created the alien (a biogenic weapon designed to be almost indestructible and to pretty much kill anything it encounters), the beings (aka the Engineers) that created it and whom are somehow responsible for us, and it hints at why they are trying to wipe us out. There is more information on the shadowy earth corporation that developed the expansion into space depicted in all five films. In terms of order to watch them, it's Prometheus, Covenant, Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3.

These aren't bad but the best is the original. A great roller coaster ride set on a space ship. Who really cares why anyone is there.

Thanks. I did not think there was a re-make.....but just another entry in the franchise.

Nice info Chuck! I was unaware of the 1st two movies you mention. Yes, the 1st Alien movie was the best. I just learned, the other day, the director's cut of Aliens has additional time showing Newts family before they were destroyed and how they pretty much bought it on themselves by not staying away from that area of the planet, as they were told.

This should make me available to some interesting comments. Or not.

It's one our biggest industries. I'm amazed at how much attention we get based on motion pictures and TV. The equipment required to get good images has shrunk considerably. Crew requirements as well. Special effects is the exact opposite. (Potential ) Qualify is way up but so is the complexity.

You still need a good story and a good script. That is what is in the shortest supply. A "Franchise" is only as good as the stories it presents. Star Wars went off the rails after the Return of the Jedi (Episode Six). Of the first three I can only tolerate the final battle between Anakin and Obi Wan. Of the slop JJ Abram's has done all I can say is the title of the film should have been The Farce Awakens. What a waste of time and money.

Remaking Psycho? Hug, Duhh. Original, masterpiece. Remake, more like a mess. There is a biopic on Hitchcock staring Anthony Hopkins as Hitch and Helen Mirren as Alma, his wife. Does a nice job of how Psych got made.

I do not understand the remaking of classic movies other than thinking that it is sure money.
I guess even Disney has made about as much as possible from re-releases as it can.
Now it is re-release a classic animated film as live action. Lady and the Tramp. Et Al.
Oh well. I'm just an old grump.

I hope you
Have FUN.
I still try. :)

Not even close on doing that now.

Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and next up Little Mermaid - doing them all as "live action" remakes - re-issue and re-invent the entire catalog, well, not all.... There are a few that they will not do over.
