When a man gets the blues, he catches a freight train and rides."

I'm a broken-hearted bachelor,
travellin' through this wide world all alone,
It's the railroad for my pillow, this jungle is my happy home.

This ole jungle, this ole jungle, has me sleepin' by myself,
Well, I'll believe I'll go, honey, find somebody else.

Well jungle, this ole jungle, cinders blowin' back in my face,
I'm gonna get me a little woman fin' some other place."

Man.......................had a rough day. Got called out this morning around 10:00 am for a woodshop and barn fire fully involved. Could see the smoke from my house when I was goin' to the fire station. The fire was located south of Paradise Pa on Blackhorse Road right beside the Strasburg Railroad tracks. The temp. was 10 degrees with a wind chill factor of -12 below. It was very windy and the fire just raced thru the building. Stuff was freezing up and so were the firefighters. I was pretty lucky as the tanker I was runnin didn't freeze up. We put heaters on our pumps to keep them from freezing up. Not all the fire co's in the area have them. I just got home an hour ago and I'm beat. Here are some pictures from the local tv station.......................................

Here are some from a Bro firefighter....................

This was the tanker set up for getting water to the fire...................

After fire was knocked down thet brought in the hevy stuff to move the debris to git to the hot spots still burning under all the rubble.

Then it was time to pull out fire engines. Sitting there in the field for 8 hrs pumping water the ground under the trucks thawed out from the engine heat. This made the truck sink down to the axles. Man what a mess trying to hook up chains in sub-zero temps.......................Damn.................

Here is one being pull out of the field tryin' to git to the road..................................

Here is a picture I took in the early spring of last year. The barn that burnt today is to the left of the tree...............................................

HOLY SMOKES DUDE!
What A day huh?
Not to change the subject but I have some stuff weighing heavy on my mind!
I just took a walk on the old Pennsy main from Indy to St louis.
Isn't any thing more than part of a bicycle path and weeds and alot of trees growin' up where I was the last to run a train before the BIG BANKS known as Greayhound financial,,, Or Finova capitol I think they call it now took up the rails and sold the right-of-way that they didn't have clear deed to and turned it into the waistland it is now.
And if you can't tell,,,I'm pretty Damn bitter about the outcome of it all.
Anyway, alot of memories from my childhood came back to me, my name inscribed in the overpass over what used to be the main with the date, "77" ,,,,,WOW 30 years have gone by since I did that!
No more PRR diesel's passing through now, no PC stuff to see there,,,,, just quiet now,,,,,as quiet as the men I knew that have passed on that worked there and are no longer with us now.
Guess I need to get on with life,,but I can't help but feel the presents of the men I knew, the good times we had at PRR "EAST YARD" and all the activity that was there! ,,,,,,MAN!,,,THOSE WERE GOOD TIMES!

Yeah!,,,I know man! Thanks!
But Sh** man!
We spend Soooo much time in this country tring to grow our fourtions and prosper that it seems we loose focas on the REAL big picture!,,this country was built on alot of basic things and the "fabric" ( the little man) just gets buried deeper and deeper to the point of no real hope of anything getting better!
I mean Look at the threads reguarding MTH and Lionel and there Bull Sh**!
These are Fu**ing toy's for God's sake!
And you'd think it was the end of time for some, by the way they get cought up in it!
And the sad part is most just keep on buying the stuff! instead of telling both companies to stick it in thier a**
And now we have what? 4 major railroads! No thanks to BOTH!!!! political sides of the fence!
That's just wrong! there should have NEVER been companies that big that as a costomer you don't have a choise as to how you can ship your goods!
Piss's me off man!
Look at us in the USA!!!! Big banks! Big Insurance companies, Big law firms,,,Big oil companies,,,,Big Phone companies,,,Big electric companies,,,, and what the HELL do we get????
If we want to complain about our service reguarding ANYTHING,,,we have to talk to some Fu**er in Calcutta India! to complain!!!!! and they don't give a sh** about your problem!
Try getting your LIONEL train parts from China!!!! Good Fu**in' luck dude!
OK,,,,,,,,I think I'm done now,,,,,,,,

Penn, you're exactly right. Pretty soon, we'll only have one store left: Wal-Fart.
And all the good old diners are taking the dive because of fast-food franchises.
Drives me crazy.

Hev, it's unbelievable to me that firemen do this on a voluntary basis.
It's hard enough to spend time outdoors with a wind-chill in the minus-numbers, but to do it soaking wet!!
Looks like this building was a goner.

A tragedy for the owner.
My deepest respect for you guys that do what you do!

Let's drink some beer!

Let's drink some more beer.

We have a birthday to celebrate. I believe the redhead has added another year. Happy Birthday, Kim! May tonight be the best. Cheers to a great year for you.

Saturday night and the wood stove is glowing like the smile on a dry rummy at seeing seven or eight bottles or cold fresh ale walking towards him waving their caps.

Penn, I hear you. We're just serfs.
That a life will be spent gaining inches,
When this distance is read in miles.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I get the same way when I drive under Saulisbury Viaduct.
Fawkin' bike trail now!!!!!

I remember when Red, White and Black GP-40s crossed that sucker. Now, a few snotty bike tourists, (that don't spend no fawkin money) and the railfans are all that it, and it's big brother (Keystone Viaduct) see anymore.

I just read an article off the wire about the "tourists" that Cumberland will see from the trail

Now, I don't know what kind of dope these hippies are smoking, but, 250,000?
Never.
Western Maryland Scenic can do that, but those cheapskate bike tourists?
Never.
(FTR, I race bicycles.)

I'll have one with you, Jon. Just scarfing on a late supper of wings done in my better halfs' newest acquistion, a Cooks Essentials huge deep fryer that she found at a yard sale for a song she didn't have to sing. That sucker can do 10 jumbo wings at a time. Fresh bottle of SRIRACHA sauce and some PBR.

What the F**K is up with this crazy weather? Got out of the hospital yesterday morning at 5:30 am it was 4 degrees below zero. Today it was +40. Now snowin' like hell again. Damn global warming, that must be why the citrus all froze out in southern Cal. and Florida!
