Mitch, don't worry. I had to set the rest of the beer aside for the photo. It's not easy stacking them like when you're sober, let me tell ya.

Jon, Is the Santa Fe running? Are you around today?

The forecast is water 57 degrees, air 65 degrees. Southwest swell with high tide of 4.9 feet at 11:51 AM tomorrow. Not like last years backsnappers, but good form and fun to ride. It's a tradition.

You just never know who you might run into out there.

Surfin' with Willy. Now that would be a Christmas. Hope he's doin' well with the Bettys down in Florida.

Well, it's Christmas Eve. Gomers' is dark, save for the twinkly lights in the two front windows and the glow of the Millers sign inside showing through. Wasn't much going on today, as the Hobos have scattered for the Holiday. Tramp, Pete, and Hev all left together a couple of days ago, all trying to go northeast to family and friends. San's been gone about five days now, long ride to California and a hard way to get there when 'ya don't have a ticket. Jon pulled out last night on a southbound, not too fur a piece to Jackson, and me, well, I don't think I'll make Pennsylvania, but there was that woman in Indiana that told me to drop by. Indiana, ain't that where Penn Central lives, ain't seen him in a month. Guess I'll just hoist my bag up on my shoulder, and stroll on down to the east end of the yard. Hope Gomer finds that package I left for him. It's one of those storebought cigarette rollers and enough tobacco and papers to last him a month. (For a man who's smoked all his life, he rolls a terrible lookin' butt). 'Night, Gomer, and Merry Christmas to you and the Hobos.

Mitch, I made 'er to Orangeville. Last 45 miles was in a hopper. Cold!

The town has a Christmas tradition of putting up luminaries down the entire main drag on Christmas Eve night. I'm fond of this beyond all recognition. It's simple and unassuming, and entirely charming. The only town I've ever seen do this.

Now I got myself a 3 mile walk in this black chill. I know a little redhead I'm hoping will put me up for a night. Normally she's a hard-headed woman, but it's Christmas Eve, and I'm thinking she'll feel a little mercy.

Good luck to you in Indiana. Tell ol' Penn I said Hi, and hope that lady's bed is warm!

Jon, D and I drank the first icy cold beer on the porch in the sun at 11:00. We couldn't wait until noon we were so hung.

Pete, Cedar Street has the same tradition. Great photo by the way.

San, any menu treats?

Hev, great shots, bud.

Who else is drinking? Turkey goes in soon.

(12:30 update) Just ate a gravlax salmon sandwich on sesame toast with cream cheese and dill. God, was that good! Time for another beer. It was the shot of absinthe at the end of the night that might have not been in perfect judgement.

Nothing too spectacular, Tramp. Spiral cut ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans with grape tomatoes, capers, and a basalmic vinegar sauce. Homemade rosewater and lemon ice cream (Persian style).

Water was cold. I only stayed in for 25 minutes with a 1/4" neoprene full suit with hood and booties. That 57 degree water gets to me now that I am some decades beyond the twenties. Caught a few tubes though, and the low angle winter sun was resplendent on the water. I was glad I brought a couple of jugs of hot water from home to rinse off.

Got back about one. Still about 70 degrees on the driveway. Warm enough for short sleeve jersey and bike shorts. Youngest daughter (Rozie) got a new road bike and couldn't round up a posse of friends, so she ran my *** off to Black Mountain and back, about 18 miles. There was a headwind on the way back and she tucked in and drafted me. Kid is finally starting to ride a line since she has been using rollers. Kinda make me proud.

Choir rang handbells at yesterday's services. Was thinking on that lovely sound and the images of all the hobo homesteads that have been coming over the forum in recent days. We are all blessed.

All of which makes a beer taste pretty fine right now. So here's to ya hobos wherever you are. Here's the OBdaughterandchristmastree image:

Rozie wishes you hobos a warm camp and a car without flat wheels on your way to the horizon.

San, your daughter is a beautiful young lady! Look at those big brown eyes. If it ain't happening already, she'll soon have a pack of hyenas shagging your house. Fair warning, better keep your shotgun lubed!

You seem blessed, friend. And by sheer dumb luck, she looks like Jahan. Guess she's been blessed, too!! LOL  :D

Please thank her for the kind sentiment for us old pack of bums.

Now, MY young "lady", it'll be the boys that need protecting. PITY the fool that tries to mess with her. He'll find himself sitting on his *** with a fist-shaped bruise on his jaw. :D
