Are you shooting it with available light? Is your layout room lit with incandescents?
That may explain the color shift.
Try setting your camera to indoor light White Balance. That may help correct the color balance.

I use a Nikon D-100, but I belive almost all of the cameras have settings for WB.
A throwback to older Pro Video cameras.
If you are upgrading, try to get a camera that can accept a external flash. This will allow you to use flash, off the camera, and control your light better.
I give photo seminars at the National Wild Turkey Federation's Women in the Outdoors program, (women with guns...) and the first thing I tell 'em is "I don't reccoment any one brand name, or try to sell anything"
Which I won't do here.
Find something with:
High pixel rating
No (or very short) shutter lag.
An optical viewfinder.
White balance settings.
Try to use the canadates in the store, or at least check out the specs on the Mfgr's web site. I don't trust salesfolks to know all the features of an item. Especally at "big Box" stores (Circuit City, and such) cause they might have came over to digital cameras from car audio or some such crap the day before.
I do reccomend using a camera store.
