The figure I posted about the sodium content came directly from McDonalds website where they posted the calorie content of their items.

30% is not the same as 30% of your recommended daily intake. 30% by weight would kill you.

i was at the market one day with my brother and he was getting some ready made guacamole and he said I like this one the best because it doesn't turn brown. I said there is a reason for that, it doesn't have any avocado in it. Read the label. it's all chemicals.

Technically, everything really is just all chemicals.

My brother passed away last year. But he was 96

A long ride....

Totally agree. I looked sometimes, but mostly ignored labels, figuring it's all bad.

Not now! I'm a steady label reader and really watch what I'm eating. Lost 10 pounds in the last 3-4 weeks and looking to lose (hopefully) 20 more over the summer. Certainly not easy for a guy who loves bread, pasta, chips, etc. and consumed way too much while watching the boob tube. But, I'm serious now and what I've loss is a big motivator for me. Luckily, I've always liked salads, sardines, baked potatoes, eggs and other food items that can be made low calorie with good protein.

Kind of reminds me when I was diagnosed back in the early 60s with valley fever. I was going to this doctor once a month and they would take a blood sample for a titer count (The antibody titer is a test that detects the presence and measures the amount of antibodies within a person's blood. The amount and diversity of antibodies correlates to the strength of the body's immune response.)

This particular day the nurse was not there to do it so the doctor did it. He used a big "syringe" after he put some of it in a small vile he was squirting the rest of it down the drain and he turned and looked at me, I said you could have put that back in me.

The next thing he says is I want to admit you to the hospital and do some testing and observation. I told him I didn't have the money for that. So what does he say. I guess you will just have to go home and die in bed.

I am still alive. GUESS HE WAS WRONG.

My own immune system fought it and won.

I very seriously considered that she was right, and that I was wrong in my judgement and decision; however, it was my life and though I appreciated how seriously Dr. Jackson took my medical emergency, I was just as serious about not putting my wife thru such an ordeal. She had never driven the route to where I was and having her make the trip alone and do so for several hours and several hundred miles was just not something I was willing to commit us to. If I were going to "go," then, I was learning something about myself. I learned that the feelings and effect I would be having on somebody so dear to me were critically important to me. I guess one learns a lot about oneself when faced with serious danger.

The medication they gave me for the pain helped me be lucid enough to make the crucial decision to put the urgent surgery off until I got home, and to make the drive alone.

Though sharing information about an illness I might be experiencing has never been my way of relating to others, I trust it is apparent to you good guys here on MTJ that I have done so, in this case, so you may have some information upon which to judge should you ever be faced with a group of pains like I was. Perhaps this narrative will be helpful as a reference.
With respect,
Murph

I've only had a few doctors in my life that I really trusted and sometimes they made mistakes too, but they tried. But, I've never had any of them be so unprofessional as to blurt out "okay then die". Many are absolute jerks and either don't know how to solve your problem or they are unwilling to take the time to understand it or just flat don't care.

My Conn's syndrome was like that until my wife diagnosed the illness. When I presented the facts to him he said he didn't know how he missed it.  This was after he almost killed me with overmedication trying to get my HB lower.

He just had to look at the same blood work report we looked at. The lab even highlights items that are too high or too low.  You just have to give a damn doc.

Sorry, it's Friday and I want to go home. So, you get bombarded. :D

Neighbor 1: "Hi, there, new neighbor, it sure is a nice day to be moving"
New Neighbor: "Yes, it is and people around here seem extremely friendly"
Neighbor 1: "So what is it you do for a living?"
New Neighbor: "I am a professor at the University, I teach deductive reasoning"
Neighbor 1: "Deductive reasoning, what is that?"
New Neighbor: "Let me give you and example. I see you have a dog house out back. By that I deduce that you have a dog."
Neighbor 1: "That is right"
New Neighbor: "The fact that you have a dog, Leads me to deduce that you have a family."
Neighbor 1: "Right again"
New Neighbor: "Since you have a family I deduce that you have a wife"
Neighbor 1: "Correct"
New Neighbor: "And since you have a wife, I can deduce that you are heterosexual"
Neighbor 1: "Yup"
New Neighbor: "That is deductive reasoning"
Neighbor 1: "Cool"

Later that same day...
Neighbor 1: "Hey, I was talking to that new guy who moved in next door"
Neighbor 2: "Is he a nice guy?"
Neighbor 1: "Yes, and he has an interesting job"
Neighbor 2: "Oh, yeah what does he do?"
Neighbor 1: "He is a professor of deductive reasoning at the University"
Neighbor 2: "Deductive reasoning, what is that"
Neighbor 1: "Let me give you an example. Do you have a dog house?"
Neighbor 2: "No"
Neighbor 1: "Fag."

A woman suspects her husband is cheating on her. One day, she dials her home and a strange woman answers. The woman says, " Who is this?" "This is the maid," answered the woman. "We don't have a maid" , said the woman. The maid says, "I was hired this morning by the man of the house. The woman says, "Well, this is his wife. Is he there?" The maid replied, "he is upstairs in the bedroom with someone who I figured was his wife." The woman is fuming. she says to the maid, "Listen, would you like to make $50,000?" The maid says, "What will I have to do?" The woman tells her, "I want you to get my gun from the desk, and shoot the jerk and the witch he's with." The maid puts the phone down; the woman hears footsteps and the gun shots. The maid comes back to the phone, "What do I do with the bodies?" The woman says, "Throw them in the swimming pool." Puzzled, the maid answers, "But there's no pool here." A long pause and the woman says, "Is this 555-4821?"

Bill rents an apartment in Chicago, and goes to the lobby to put his name on the group mailbox. While he was there, an attractive young lady comes out of the apartment next to the mailboxes wearing a robe. Bill smiles at the young girl, so she strikes up a conversation with him.

As they talk, her robe slips open, and it's quite obvious that she has nothing on under the robe. Poor Bill breaks out into a sweat trying to maintain eye contact. After a few minutes, he places her hand on his arm and says, "Let's go to my apartment. I hear someone coming..."

Bill follows her into the apartment. Once inside, she leans against the wall allowing her robe to fall off completely. Now completely nude, she purrs, "What would you say is my best feature?"

The flustered, embarrassed Bill stammers, clears his throat several times, and finally squeaks out, "Oh, your best feature has to be your ears!"

She's astounded! "Why my ears? Looks at these breasts! They're full, they don't sag, and they're 100% natural! My butt is firm and doesn't sag, and have no cellulite! So, why in in the world would you say my ears are my best feature?"

Clearing his throat once again, Bill stammers, "Because, when we were in the hallway you said you heard someone coming... that was me!"

Anyone see today's Google Art?

Has anyone read Octavia Butler?

Here are three excerpts from her 1987 novel, "Dawn."

ALIVE!
Still alive.
Alive … again.
Awakening was hard, as always. The ultimate disappointment. It was a strug-
gle to take in enough air to drive off nightmare sensations of asphyxiation. Lilith
Iyapo lay gasping, shaking with the force of her effort. Her heart beat too fast, too
loud. She curled around it, fetal, helpless. Circulation began to return to her arms
and legs in flurries of minute, exquisite pains.

MEDUSA
Some of the “hair” writhed independently, a nest of snakes startled, driven in all directions.
Revolted, she turned her face to the wall.
“They’re not separate animals,” he said. “They’re sensory organs. They’re no more
dangerous than your nose or eyes.

SAFE
“I don’t care what you think of me,” she told Curt. “You’re the kind of man the
human race is going to need down on Earth. That’s why I woke you. I want you to
live to get down there.” She hesitated. “Don’t go Peter’s way, Curt.”
He stared at her. Only recently free of the drug, only recently capable of vio-
lence, he stared.
“Make him sleep again!” Lilith told Nikanj. “Let him forget! Don’t give him a
machete and wait for him to use it on someone.”
“Yahjahyi thinks he’ll be all right,” Nikanj said. Yahjahyi was Curt’s ooloi.
“Does it?” Lilith said. “What did Peter’s ooloi think?”

Many of those children in the "shelters" came on their own, unattended no parents.
How many can you accommodate in New Jersey.

A 250,000-square-foot facility at a former WalMart superstore in Brownsville, Texas, today houses some 1,500 boys between the ages of 10 and 17 who illegally entered the U.S. Southwest Key bought the facility in 2016,

Southwest Key is a Latino organization that has been paid over 1 billion dollars by the US government in the last decade to shelter these children. Southwest Key Programs CEO Juan Sanchez received nearly $1.5 million in 2016 - nearly twice the previous year’s salary, of $786,822. His wife, Jennifer, vice president of Southwest Key, received about $280,000 in 2015 in total compensation, WQAD reported. From 2007 to 2013, Sanchez also served on the board of the former National Council of La Raza (NCLR), which was one of the nation’s largest and oldest Latino advocacy groups.

Southwest Key holds a total of more than 5,000 immigrant children, about 10 percent of whom are said to have been separated from their families since May, when the new policy was announced. Its shelters for immigrants minors are in Texas, Arizona and California.

"For 30 years, our work in offering youth justice alternatives, immigrant children's shelters, and education has served to improve the lives of thousands of young people,” the message said. “We believe keeping families together is better for the children, parents and our communities, and we remain committed to providing compassionate care and reunification.”

My concern for them goes to the level of their being human beings. AS human children, we should be protecting them as though they were our own. Because they are. :)

Murph, this situation didn't just start since Trump was elected. It has been an ongoing situation for years. It's just that the Libs and the Democrats are trying to make it a humanitarian issue all about Trump. Where was the outrage 10 years ago when Obama and the Democrats were in control.

The Latino organizations that are looking after these children are doing a much better job that the parents of these children that sent them on their own in a harsh environment to get here. Many stories of these children being kidnapped, murdered and girls raped.
