Hobo Jungle

Crimony. I finally finished the garlic mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, 2 soups (carrot and squash), dressing (added some applewood bacon), and sweet potatoes. It's zero dark thirty here. I am glad I went surfing this afternoon. It keeps you thin if you work big waves and stay agressive.
In the infamous words of Robert Duvall as Kilgore in Apocalypse Now, "Charlie don't surf!" It is one of the reasons I keep doing it.
But mainly, Jon, Tramp, and all the 'bo's. Thanks for the friendship and comraderie. As Bill said over in the main forum, "it'a a great ride." On the train.

Jake and I invented a new drink last night. We call the Chandler.
Bushmill's Irish whiskey (2 shots)
Tall highball glass
Long lemon twist rubbed on edge and dropped in
Ice (lots)
Dash or two of Angostura bitters
Top with gingerale
San, your food sounds good. We went with the plain brining. You think adding stuff to the brine makes a difference?

Thanksgiving Day, 2000.
The day the Hobo Jungle made it's first appearance.
A thread born of a poem and a call for friendship.
This is, I believe, it's fifth (and most hilarious) reincarnation, and literally thousands of posts later, it's yet at full steam, the 'pops' two pounds from shrieking, a coal bin that's never empty, and a tank that never runs dry.
Who would have guessed.
Been quite a ride. People have come, and people have gone, but all have added to the Soul of the Jungle. We've ridden freights all over the States, sat our butts in many a county lock-up, shared many a brew and a story and a mulligan stew, careening between nonsense and deeper meaning. Four YEARS we're riding these rails. Amazing.
Long may it reign.
Ridden out of one home by a bunch of fatheads, a quick thanks to Bill, the Wayne yard bull, for letting us set-up camp in his own neighborhood.
And friendships it's made. Beyond those folk who have become cyber-friends, thanks to the Hobo Jungle, I have become real-time friends with Will and Tramp. I have also had the very distinct honor to meet two others, Jackie Blue and RRRocky, and but for the vagaries of geography and responsibilities intervening, would be proud to share my time on this good earth with all of you.
Could you imagine us all together in one place? Would be one crazy party indeed.
I've said this Thanksgivings-past. From the Bloomsburg and Sullivan Railroad, with a tip of the old tin caboose cup:
Here's to all us dreamers. May our open hearts be blessed.
P&R Petey and Kim
PS. and hopefully, if the redhead gets to feeling frisky, I'll get my own turkey brined.

San Diegan
Welcome, Carl. Never know when a 'bo is going to step back into the camp, but he's always welcome.
Petey, I think you said it for all of us. Thanks, man.

PS: Tramp, I don't know about the added stuff in the brine, but it makes it fun.
Jon, we have a brand of surfboard wax called "Sex Wax". Sounds like a product you would like. So far, everyone I know uses it on their surfboard. It's sold at the "Valley of Dreams" surf shop in Leucadia. Leucadia is like that.
