I seriously doubt that you need to totally discontinue. Just don't store more acidic drinking options (red wine...) within them.

Well, out of the approx. 20 decanters we have on the bar, perhaps a third of them have had whiskey or scotch sitting in them for more than a year (we like the colors shining thru), so given what has been advised here, my wife and I thought it best not to brain-damage loved ones and friends by serving from the decanters. Am I over reacting?

For wines, we use them in their bottles at-table.

Probably. Seems a step or 3 away from mass hysteria - let me know if you see any cats and dogs living together,

I at times will decant some red wines for the table for a right occasion.........

I've been cleaning stuff all day to put into my new kitchen cabinets.

I (from my deceased wife's whimsical ways) have a variety of stemware. I don't have a clue what they're for, other than to drink from.

I know some of them are wine glasses (cause we drank wine out of them  ), but the others have me bewildered :?

One bunch could be considered goblets, about 7" tall. The other set are smaller, 4-1/2" tall. I figure maybe glasses for Sherry or such.

A few other sets just won't make the cut, they're headed for the plastic bins in the garage for now.

Maybe I should just toss them all and use ONE GLASS FOR ALL!!! The friends I have wouldn't know the difference

I thought I had some glasses that would have been just right for swigging that Rye, but they have handles on them (what was she thinking?!?!?!)

No Mason jars if anyone is wondering

Rufus, there are cats and dogs living together right next door! Should I offer them some "decanted" wines, when they come 'round again for some water in their Murph's deck bowls?

P. S. "I at times will decant some red wines..."
Very literate, ya know.
You have many powers, bub.

My father used a large Waterford tumbler to drink his Jack Daniels from. He'd fill it up with whisky, then add a few drops of water on top. Don't ask me why.

No.....not good for them.

I might term them attributes as opposed to "powers".

If the Waterford tumbler isn't your style, you could get one of those mondo plastic cups with a snap-on top and unkillable plastic straw from your local Kwik-E-Mart. They're good for a cheap refill whenever you're not getting drunk on rye.

Good one Roy!

Reminds me of a co-worker that came in with this HUGE "cup" of coffee every day. I told him he needed one of those caster wheeled thingies they use to move big potted plants around on:
