Been looking for some signage for some concrete retaining walls. This one appealed to me.

This would look good on an old fence.

Jon,

Tell him to suck it up and hit the ball!

Seriously, I coached for about 6 years, mostly assisting a very good coach who knew how to balance winning, learning and having fun. Kids do want to learn how to play and do well, and often they are harder on themselves than the coaches. Its parents, not coaches who are the biggest problem. They are always using their kids as surrogates to compensate for their own inadequacies or unfulfilled dreams.

In this case, the coach and Dad are both right. Swing hard and level and keep your eye on the ball- sound beginning advice. After all, kids do want to hit the ball, and when they hit it, they want it to go far enough so they can get to first base. We were still emphasizing a quick level swing as they reached their teen years. A good coach will teach the fundamentals, while keeping it all in perspective and making sure that all the kids have a good time. That can include trying to win, because kids like to win as much as grownups.

EVERYTHING WAS IN THERE THAT YOU'D WANT TO SEE,
CORNED BEEF AND ONIONS AND SOME BREW,
TURNIPS AND TINNED TOMATOES,
PARSNIPS AND A FEW POTATOES,
A COUPLE SHOTS OF GOLD(tm) FOR ALL OF YOU

NOW THIS HERE MINGLE-MANGLE WAS MY BEST ONE YET,
A BIG POT OF GOULASH WORTH WAITING FOR,
AND I'M JUST ABOUT TO DIP MY CAN,
TASTE SOME BROTHERHOOD OF MAN,
WHEN I GET A FEELING THAT THERE'S A FLAW

WHO PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN
WAS IT YOU?
WILLY PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN STEW
I CLOSE MY EYES FOR JUST A MINUTE
WHAT DID HE DO?
WILLY PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN STEW

YOU WON'T FIND SELF-IMPROVEMENT OR PHILOSOPHY
IN A DUMPSTER SITTING BY THE KITCHEN DOOR,
THERE'S PLENTY OF PEELS AND HUMBLE PIE,
AIN'T TOO MUCH HAM ON RYE,
SOMETIMES I WONDER WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

BUT A BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS GOES A LONG, LONG WAY
AND HOBOS ALWAYS DO OUR BEST TO SHARE WHAT’S OURS
AS WE WAIT THE NEXT FREIGHT COMING DOWN
TO THE NEXT GOD-FORSAKEN TOWN
A HANDFUL OF CIGARS HELPS PASS THE HOURS

BUT WHO PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN
WAS IT YOU?
WILLY PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN STEW
I CLOSE MY EYES FOR JUST A MINUTE
WHAT DID HE DO?
WILLY PUT OLD PIGWEED IN THE MULLIGAN STEW

A B&M RR lantern, after so many [add number ___________] beers, reflects on a plaster wall: H A M A S. I think it's a message from GOD.

Roger, it was a good program, and we went to the sectionals quite often. There was a bad apple or two (coaches), as there always are, but I was fortunate enough to hook up with a great guy who knew baseball and never talked down to the kids but knew how to motivate in a "lets have fun", easy-going style.

And he was also the best possible type of coach for my high strung kid. I sure my being his assistant coach had something to do with the fact that my kid was one of the best players in the league for a few years. (brag, brag) It certainly wasn't because of my baseball knowledge.

The same group of kids got to the state tournament when they reached high school.

Jon, that's what my kids are doin'.
When my son was in little league ball, his first year out of T ball they had a end of the year contest and my son threw a 42 MPH pitch and won the fastest jr pitch.
I had 4 coaches ask what team he wanted to be on and "we sure would like to have him",,,,,The bullshit started,,I got phone calls and I even had coaches stopping at the house to take him to practice the next season,,,,to witch I said,,were playing Soccer this year,,,,well,,,we'd sure like to have him out there.

MARCH

How the certainties of night
To be lost by daylight:
The iron vows, the dire upsets?
Where to stumble within this breadth,
This disparity within the self?
Is it hypocrisy, when each
Violent illumination is violently believed?

The month of March is
31 days of nasty storms for Celts,
With its one lee shore on the 17th,
To attend the few possible repairs
And to take on our water.
Each day the long mound of snow
At the curve of my driveway
Changes. Here I read my joust with March.
It grows and whitens when in strength,
In twilight was once beautiful,
But now, this final day, it's an
Icy, dirty tongue bleeding at the edges.
I know who the tongue is for.

It should be simple,
This joining at the genitals,
But it is not.
The partner twice,
First in the gilded barroom,
Later in the hungover bedroom.
How can I not fear that all my truths
Are based on a lie:
As who would dare compare
The weight of all alcohol
To the weight of all tears?

Do not forsake me now when I am close,
Please, do not forsake me now,
But that is when they do;
As the rich continue to subsidize
Then vanquish errant madmen
With the free blood of their poor.
For them so much is free,
Except the self-respect I won't sell.

My thoughts take that blinding distance
Out past single stars equal our universe,
But upon return
What am I left with?

Thanks, Jon. Actually, with D beside me, this is by FAR the best March I've ever had. It's not usually my favorite month.

HEY. Have you tried Red Hook ESB?
