LOS ANGELES - A Corvette sports car stolen when it was brand new in New York 37 years ago has been recovered in California and will be returned to its rightful owner, authorities said.
The 1968 car, which vanished from Alan Poster’s garage in the borough of Queens on Jan. 22, 1969, was identified as stolen as it was being loaded on a container ship for Sweden last November, Department of Homeland Security spokesman Mike Fleming said.
The car had recently been purchased for $10,000 by a man in Sweden who was unaware it had been stolen nearly four decades earlier, Fleming said. Since Poster’s insurance at the time did not cover the Corvette’s theft and he was never compensated, he is entitled to get it back.

Maybe they'll find my hot rod '69 Nova that was stolen in Brooklyn in 1984.

That Nova's gone for good, Tramp. One night in the early eighties I was on my way to Carpenter Technology in Bridgeport, Conn. I came off the GW Bridge at about 11:00pm and about 1 mile north of the bridge, (in the Bronx), there was a new Chevy Malibu sitting on the shoulder with a white hankerchief tied to the door. I emptied out and I came back south the next morning at about 10:00am and all that was left was the body of the car! I'm tellin' ya, they took everything. Engine, doors, differential, hood, everything. Poor ****** probably ran out of gas and lost his car. How anybody could pop the engine and trans without being seen is beyond me. Probably lots of people saw it, but didn't want to get involved. BTW, a guy I knew had a '69 Nova SS396. Rolled it end over end 3 times, but didn't get hurt. Wasn't drinking at the time, either. Yep,,I'll be glad to catch up with ya, Had to put a starter on my S10 yesterday morning and I went to the other supervisors house that I work with to have a drink and visit a little while I get greasy,,ended up drinking Jim Beam & coke,,,,,,Almost burnt my truck up,,,,It was fun!
I think the project overall went pretty well, the truck starts and runs great,,It just smells like burnt wire in the cab!
The sad part?,,,Were both Electronic techs!

Jon, I was thinkin' of you the other day; missed a great NYC RS3 by K-line on ebay by a couple of bucks. Did you ever sell that S1 electric or that Hudson we talked about all those months ago. Thinking about putting track back up; the ol' lady may not dig it, though (she knows the depths of my potential addictions, or at least has an idea).

Amalie, the K-line Hudson and the S-1 both sold well on Ebay. My stuff is about thinned out where it needs to be. I'm eye-ballin' Lionel's 4-4-2 Atlantic pretty hard for the up coming year, but will hold off 'till I see what 3rd Rail is offering. Drink up, next round is on me, 'Bo's!!!
