Re: Favorite Movies
There is no common thread in any movie I watch. Movies come on TV that I've never seen and I just hit the clicker. If the show don't have my attention in 5 minutes, it's gone. I've never watched the Deer Hunter, saw pieces of it, but wouldn't be able to take it the whole way through. I am no DeNiro fan, don't care for him at all except for his role as Vito Corleone in Godfather II. But George C. Scotts' role as Patton I thought was awesome. The speech, the mannerisms, just the looks on his face and in his eyes makes it easy for me to associate him with one of WWIIs greatest heroes. As for the westerns, well hell, it's John Wayne, and westerns were big when I was young. Still love 'em. I think Tom Selleck and Sam Eliot make great cowboys, and I'll watch them every time they're on too. Always liked Magnum P.I., but took until recently to get interested in NYPD Blue. Never thought of him as a cop, but like him the Hallmark Jesse Stone series.

To what degree would you apply that to "The Deer Hunter," Tom?
I don't know that he applied that comment to "The Deer Hunter" or not.
"Would" he, Rufus, was my question.

And, I think he wasn't at all

Re: Favorite Movies
I thought The Deer Hunter was a fairly good movie, just don't want to watch it again, a few scenes are a little too close to home for comfort for me. No further explanation is forthcoming Murph.

Big Fish is a 2003 American comedy-fantasy based on the 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace. Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney play the same character, as the young and senior stages of a life. I enjoy it because it is so strange and, yet, so poignant and indulgent. I've never seen anything quite like it.
Re: Favorite Movies
Big Fish is a Tim Burton Film about an estranged son and his "discovery" of his fathers true life as he is passing away. The son learns that there was more truth than fiction to his dad's tall tales of his youth. Very poignant and touching film.
Patton is a great film with great music and a great cast. It also had a great screenplay that Francis Ford Coppola co wrote.
George C Scott did a nice cameo on an episode of Columbo when his wife at that time played the vilianese. Trish Van de vere. It's kind of funny because a) it' s uncredited, b) you have to look/listen to recognize him, c) ultimate irony is that he probably sounded more like the real Patton in that role than he does in the movie Patton.

Great description of Big Fish Chuck. It's a very entertaining movie. I need to see it again.
Mitch. Try "Heat" which has De Niro, Pacino and Kilmer and great music too. De Niro is good, but you're following so many story lines he doesn't dominate the movie. Very sophisticated cops & robbers movie with good action and acting.
"Usual Suspects" is an excellent "twisty" who dunnit or in this case what's really going on movie. Kevin Spacey and a cast of great actors makes this a super movie that you don't fully understand until the end and then need to think about it.

Movie stars who make some kind of asinine political comment I put on my s***list and avoid watching anything their in.
Re: Favorite Movies
Heat is excellent. Scene in diner between Pacino and De Niro was shot face to face in real time with two camera's, one behind/over the shoulder of each actor.
Frankenheimer was one of my favorite directors, Seven Days in May, Manchurian Candidate, The Train, Ronin.
