You are very thoughtful in making that offer Nev. It is not necessary to spend the time deleting old posts or photos yourself because Bill, our forum moderator, does the deletion for us. He selects posts that have had no activity for a year and maybe another criteria and poof! --gone. I believe your photos are safe this go-round of forum trimming because they are relatively new. I just forewarned you of possible deletions because you haven't been through a forum trimming on MTJ before.

I might add, for your information, prior to the last purge we were limited in size of image we could post. People like Murph, who have very high resolution images, were limited to tiny image posting (Murph likes posting direct to forum site as you do.) After the purge, much to my delight, there was no size limit. I love your large photos and hope the ability to post such photos continues.

Hi Wayne.
I use "3M size prints 4X6"" if I went to the lowest size which is next one down it's "VGA small image for e-mail attachments"
I could take photos in the next size down on the cameras but you lose so much detail.
I use Sony Cameras they are old but still take good photos.
Nev.

I find it much much easier and faster being able to post pictures directly to the forum. Is there not something that automatically re-sizes the photos to something more forum friendly?

Automatically for you? You mean your secretary?

Run your photos through Paint or Photoshop or a host of other available software options - there are web sites that exist that you can use to resize photos. Avail yourself of one of the possible myriad options!

Paint is pretty straight-forward..."resize" is on the tool-bar.

I don't know about "automatically re-sizing " photos, but before I post directly to MTJ, I always re-size my photos using Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is on my computer. Usually, I resize from a typical 2592x1944, taken by my older Canon camera (now retired), to a max of 990x743. I do that because I noticed when I post larger photos, they spread all across the page, here, requiring an MTJ forumite to slide the blue strip at the bottom of the page to see the whole photo, and I somehow got the feeling that was unfair - hogged up too much space.

Both these photos were originally of the larger dimensions, resized to the max of 990x....

Hey Murph...a sidebar question - your buildings are brilliantly/realistically weathered, but your locomotives are as pristine as the day they were born.

What's up with that? (not a criticism, just a question)...

Reasonable question. The reason? No guts for it. No talent for it = no glory.

I like and respect when I see weathered steam locomotives, especially, on some other hobbyist's layout, however (like Norm C.)

The steel industry RR cars, the doodlebug train, and the diesel, plus a few freight cars are as close as I ever got to weathered trains on my own layout.

Thanks Murph. Don't know that I ever saw a shot of the diesel before...looks very sharp. The layout, being the stage for everything else, is just exquisite...never tire of seeing it.

You are missing the point. Doesn't the server automatically reduce any oversize as it uploads? The OGR Forum site does.
I can take the drawn out time to leave the forum, upload to another server, resize photos, find the link address then come back here, but, that is kinda like Festivus Enteruptus. Posting directly from my computer to the forum saves a lot of time and keeps me in the mood. It is a nice feature to have.

I don't think MTJ resizes anything.
Maybe if you have more sophisticated equipment.?
