Nope. I saw an eye in your last pic and I googled something like yellow porcupine type mammal and that’s what came up. I thought at first a yellow jacket until you mentioned it is a mammal.

Actually they are rather small and have a lot of uniqueness about them. One of those species that we simply don't see much of nor even fully understand.

Southern San Luis Valley RR D500.
Per wiki....
"They took the D&RGW steam locomotive tender frame (D&RGW #964) which they had purchased in 1950 and after an abortive attempt at building a locomotive on the tender frame, a successful machine was completed in 1955.[9] It was a strange-looking locomotive they called the D-500. It rolled on standard locomotive tender trucks which were powered by a sprocket and chain drive. Power was from an International Harvester, 1091 cubic inch, UD24 diesel engine. The power went through a Caterpillar hydraulic transmission, which in turn powered an old Euclid truck axle, which transmitted power through sprockets and chains to the axles.[12] The odd locomotive, which resembled a caboose, was built in a cupola style for visibility and to ease the installation of the prime mover. The locomotive was built by SSLV mechanics in Mesita, Colorado.[12] All steam trains on the SSLV ceased operating in 1957."

Critter on steroids.

All correct. Good research De Bruin!

It is a BIG critter but not big on horsepower. The mighty UD-24! With 1091 cubic inches, engine was rated at a maximum 191 horsepower at 1400, with the intermittent rating at 180 ponies. The continuous rating was 144 horsepower at 1375 rpm.
