Well, I guess we've had our day and a half of sunshine for this month. Back to the rain! Beginnin' to wonder if Ma Nature got the Pittsburgh area mixed up with Seattle?

Just to your east we have also had a very wet summer so-far, but still a few sunny days (the important ones being car-meet days!)

Take heart; beat's hell out of what we had in February, mate, and you notice our deep South friends are strangely quiet about now having to live tethered to the A/C vent!

Yes, we have been upper 90s for some time now but I much prefer this to anything below 65.
Our problem, unlike some just to the north in Kentucky, is lack of rain.

Saw that front on the map last night coming across PA and WV. Looked like some serious rain - hope you guys had your water wings bedside with the ground saturated and water table high. We've had some good sized lakes in the back yard on/off through June & July so far.

I have to go up to my PA place Fri and mow.........and probably pump out the cistern, and see what other problems might be waiting for me.

Latest prediction for Joaquin looks like an up-the-slot shot for the Chesapeake...that was a disaster in '03 with Isabel...



Better start lashing down the patio furniture and checking the gutters and sump-pump. I'm 26 miles from the bay and 764 feet above sea-level...I'm thinking I'm not going to flood.

Actually retired the name Agnes from use after this storm.

Agnes went across Georgia and the Carolinas, then back out to sea, up the Susquehanna almost to the Finger Lakes where I lived at the time then shot over to the UK extra-tropical; although my old mate George swore it turned around and came back down the Susquehanna again (he lived in New Cumberland at the time).

This morning's solution now has it going outside the bay up the coast, aimed at Long Island. The confidence in the solutions is still low, so we wait to see how this all develops. Having been to sea, I really sweat these dam things; I don't even like a windy winter night.

Healey, I seem to remember Isabelle coming in east-to-west across Virginia, putting Maryland on the windy side; the countryside was a real mess for a few days after that one. The last one I remember clearly going straight up the Chesapeake was Fran. We were due to move a ship down the Bay the next morning so waited the thing out pierside. We had to slack and retighten lines a couple times as the surge came up the Bay and into Baltimore Harbour. At one point the entire pier one over from us was under water; surge is an impressive thing to see.

There was a car carrier that dropped hooks outside the Key Bridge to wait it out. If you've never seen one of these things, it's a great whacking floating box with huge amounts of freeboard for the wind to play against. Sure enough he didn't have enough iron over the side, and it wasn't clear whether he was dragging what he had or the crew wasn't paying attention and the surge lifted the hooks off the bottom. Anyway, here he came sideways up toward Fort McHenry and it wasn't clear whether he was going to get blown into the Inner Harbour (which would have made the news!) or not. Four Moran and Macallister tugs caught up with him including this big thing (that I believe had three engines across) that belonged to Moran, and managed to shove him into Fairfield.

It was an interesting night...

He may have been right, That storm is still well remembered over in Franklin Co. and it tore through Scranton and up into the Poconos.....

Looks like there's been a slight shift in the path of the current storm that might keep it off the coast.....but things change.

Right now VA is already in a state of emergency since we're slated to 8-10" of rain over the next 48-72 hours from the current storm before the hurricane arrives.

I can't remember...is it worse to be on the east or west side of one of these things when it comes up the coast? And it looks like it's slowing down...that's always bad.

Yup, Sarge, the surge can be impressive. I'm going down to my Uncle's place today to move the sailboat out of the marina and out into the creek onto a mooring where she can just rise and fall with plenty of slack and not bounce around next to the pier.



Isabel put eight feet of water onto the shoreline north of Baltimore, inundating a lot of those poor buggers up there. Went to the store last night to pick up a case of water...sold out. Here we go...

I heard there were some power-outages around DC yesterday. One has to wonder...

We got close to an inch of rain up here near the PA border. More rain expected before "the storm" hits...saturation will become an issue quickly, if not already.

Wife is at the store now...we'll see if she finds her water. Kind of ironic that in the middle of all of this, one is off searching for water

Edit: New stock of water arrived overnight...three cases in the pantry now. Stopped at Lowes to pick up a bit of plastic drain tile...they had a few skids of water as well.

I do have a wine rack close to full and small stash of better beer, Pretty sure I have a case of water in the basement and actually 1/2 a case out in the car I brought back from my place in PA...rotate the stock there.
