I love fireworks. They are shooting them off over the Del Mar Fairgrounds tonight and I have a fine view from the back yard. I especially like the cannon shots.

I'm with you, San!
We're fireworks-junkies over here. The louder, more teeth-rattling, the better.
I'll never understand people that leave when the grand-finale starts because they want to be the first car out of the parking lot. They must be the coitus-interruptus set.

We always have to buy a carton-full of the ground-works to set-off in the driveway. The kids absolutely lust for them, and when the moment comes, they get so full of adrenaline that they start jumping up and down, not knowing what to do with themselves.

I worry I'm going to hate it when they grow up.

Cannons, though. Now THOSE are some fireworks, if you're speaking literally!
I had the great fortune, (considering the many thousands of people), when I went to a huge re-enactment at Gettysburg, to get myself placed at the end of a row of some 30 cannons. God, the concussion! It all but liquified your guts.

It was awesome!

Sobering, though, to imagine getting hit by a load of canister. Then you'd be glad you have a gun.
So you can shoot yourself!

Anyone have a Bangsite Carbide Canon as a kid? Wuhu boy, with a couple of those and some M80s (approx 1/4 stick of dynamite) we could reenact WWII in the neighborhood.

I almost did. We got to shooting corks with them and once in a while one would send the trigger mechanism out the *** end rather shoot the cork.

It's amazing we survived childhood.

How 'bout it.
I remember hammering-in pieces of 2x4 up a tree trunk as steps to get up into the branches. So what if they wobbled when you climbed. lol

But then again, the redhead isn't sure that I'm actually done with my childhood, yet.

It's never too late to have a good childhood, Petey.

It's strange but both pictures make me thirsty. Why is that, I wonder?
