Hondo, you and I will have six feet of dirt piled on us long before those guys get put out of business. My kids might have six feet of dirt piled on them too before that happens (although I don't think anyone after our generation plans on being buried).
I've never understood sympathy for the oil companies. Exxon, Chevron and Shell made more than $100 Billion last quarter...... They'll be out of business right after the sun winks out.

....and what about that HUGE Ghawar oil field under Saudi Arabia? Is the rest of the world going all in on electric vehicles? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is the answer.
As for cleaning up things, a friend that I worked with for several years always said: "Man will drown in his own $hit."

Odd. Must be something going on over in your county in PA - local gouging. Was just there Fri & Sat. Over in Franklin Co. it's been under $4 since July unless you're really stupid and buy it right off Rt 81. Go a few miles and it's $3.50-3.79 depending on who's trying to gouge // undercut the other guy.
Then again, the oil companies need their record profits to buy back their stock.....
Not under $4.00 in Bucks. $4.05 yesterday. Sheetz had a diesel promo $4.49 all month. Mid August i saw gas south of route 30 for $4.06 while it was $4.19 in Bucks. That wad a Liberty station in Bucks. They pump it.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Bucks Co.
Still the same after all these years.

I'll be up for an electric vehicle once a few things happen: (1) decent models are available in the $25000-$30000 price range; (2) true range is consistently 300 miles or thereabouts (highway speed, a/c on); (3) the charging process is thirty minutes or less; (4) there's a plethora of charging stations and the grid can support the transition. Until then, it's internal combustion or a hybrid for me.
Re: Northern weather
Either you're really young or forget electric cars then.

Cheaper than I can get fuel oil around here. There is no tax on fuel oil.

Was watching Mary Barra this morning; if you think that GM is "decent" (
Go around back of Royal Farms - charging stations.....
Still, this is much like the evolution of the automobile - range and gas stations were not in full development keeping pace with the cars......

There have been 2 at the local grocery where I shop for quite a while. I have actually seen the occasional car? charging up there!
Nothing has blown up yet, but I wouldn't park too close!

I've seen more gas powered vehicles on fire. In fact, far too frequently - what's going on with that?
BTW, $3.85 in Quincy today...

I think the tech is advancing faster than you realize, so price and operational range will likely be attractive soon. The infrastructure bit is the question. I think the funding is largely there; the question is will the oil lobby get in the way causing much to be squandered.
We're supposed to get nailed by some heavy rain Sunday-into-Monday (residual of Earl as it passes?). We're still an inch or so behind average, so we can stand it.

Gasoline fumes are highly explosive, even more so than the liquid form. Dang dangerous stuff, and you don't want to get it on your skin.
I think it's a pretty good rule of thumb that you don't want to be messing with ANY petroleum product.
I have seen a video of an electric car at charging station catching on fire, and taking out 2 other EV's that were charging beside it. They appeared to be one or two feet apart. Happened really fast (unless the vid was speeded up).
Finally saw $3.84 where I gas up!

Too late given my past career; way too, too late,

Probably have seen the same one, but I see burnt cars on the side of the road way more often, and I hear car-b-que on the radio traffic reports even more often. I think that the battery stuff is over-sensationalized by the media and then puffed up even more by the oil lobby.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that whatever the case, if it can burn, sooner or later it will!
It might prove VERY interesting to see how the battery/oil rivalry evolves. Makes me think of the title of that movie: "There Will Be Blood!"
