Freedom of Speech
Re: Freedom of Speech
I believe the attack was in Nice, not Paris. Notre Dame is still closed following the catastrophic fire last year (or the year before).

Thank you, both, for the correction. I just now heard the attack was, as you indicated , in Nice.

How hard was that to figure out?

Re: Freedom of Speech
Yup.
And, btw, are we (Western Civilization) certain the fire atop the Notre Dame in Paris was an accident by simple workmen ?

Muslims 'have the right to kill millions of French people', Malaysia's former PM says after church terror attack in Nice
Malaysia's former prime minister said that Muslims have the right 'to kill millions of French people', shortly after a knife-wielding Islamist killed three people in a deadly terror attack in Nice.
Mahathir Mohamad, who lost power in February this year, said freedom of expression does not include 'insulting other people' as fury over satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed sweeps the Islamic world.

More like simple-minded, aka stupid workmen. That was an accident waiting to happen. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity/cheapness (which is just stupidity on steroids).

Re: Freedom of Speech
...and, btw, if one thinks about that attack at Nice, he decapitated her, with a "knife," the News stated . Can you imagine that scene ?! It takes a lot of anger and hatred and "religious" zeal to be able to wield a knife that seriously. And I'm sure, for somedam reason, there was no sawing or repeat swinging of the knife . It's just about beyond imagining; yet, "they" have been in the world's news, in these contemporary times , decapitating other Westerners.

President Erdogan accused of fuelling the anger that led to French terror attacks
https://news.yahoo.com/turkish-presiden ... 23902.html
The Turkish president’s bellicose rhetoric towards France over the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed may have contributed to a climate of anger that led to the deadly terror attack in the city of Nice on Thursday, terrorism experts and EU politicians have said.
A woman was decapitated, and two more people killed, in an attack in a church in Nice on Thursday that the city’s mayor described as terrorism after the alleged perpetrator reportedly chanted “Alllahu akbar” as he was arrested.
Terrorism experts believe the attack – alongside a stabbing at the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and an incident in Avignon where police killed a man brandishing a gun – were retaliation by extremists for France’s hardening attitudes towards Muslims.
French President Emmanuel Macron ordered a crackdown on Islamists this month, following the beheading of a teacher who showed his class caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, something many Muslims consider blasphemous and offensive.
Turkish President Recep Tayipp Erdogan has led criticism in the Muslim world of Mr Macron, repeatedly saying he needed mental evaluation over his stance towards Islam.

Re: Freedom of Speech
I've seen cartoons of Jesus wearing roller skates and carrying a balloon . I doubt any Christians would have bolted from their houses and headed for the beheading of authors/cartoonists over such frivolity.
And there is a whole series of cartoons showing Old Testament personages doing and saying silly things, like one guy telling Moses to stop opening-up the stream in front of them as they are sitting on the bank fishing. And there is one where Noah is carping at two snails as they make their way up the ramp to The Ark, saying, "Take your time; take your time , it's only begun to rain ". I'm pretty sure no Jews left their houses over such humor carrying knives and looking for the artists/authors of that humor.

Re: Freedom of Speech
The head of Turkey is a fascist, which why our President likes him so much
. There's no excuse for this reprehensible behavior, but personally I would not go out of my way to make jokes at the expense of people who sometimes are crazier than a rabid raccoon. They've been on the losing side of history for most of the last 500 years in most places on the globe. I think that pisses people off. Not justifying it, just stating the likely realities.
