Re: In the News
Pennsylvania has a snap program. Supplemental nutrition assistance program (revamped food stamps) this pays for kids school lunch. It also pays for household food. They give you a debit type card. Every month a pre set amount is added to your card. After making your purchase you nat get cash back. This cash can be used for your child’s school lunch. Not every snap member can receive cash back.
I base none of my next statements on facts. Some people will get cash back and not use it to pay for their kid’s lunch. This is why one school board member said. “ we need to see where the money went”.

MS-13 Committed L.A. Area-Killings With Machetes, Cutting Out Victim’s Heart: Officials

Los Angeles-based MS-13 gang members carried out seven grisly killings over the past two years, including hacking a victim to death with a machete in the Angeles National Forest and carving out his heart, according to a newly unsealed federal indictment officials presented at a news conference on Tuesday.
The community at Panorama High School told the Los Angeles Times they received few to no details until prosecutors last week announced murder and racketeering charges against 22 suspected members of an MS-13 clique in the Los Angeles area. Six Panorama students, the newspaper adds, were detained in February 2018 with no explanation. They are now linked to the off-campus killings of a classmate and another individual allegedly carried out by the clique, investigators revealed.
Mara Salvatrucha, popularly known as MS-13, is an international criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles, California, in the 1970s and 1980s. Originally, the gang was set up to protect Salvadoran immigrants from other gangs in the Los Angeles area. Over time, the gang grew into a more traditional criminal organization. MS-13 is defined by its cruelty, and its rivalry with the 18th Street Gang.

Why don't they give the card to the kids, and debit their lunches directly from it? At least, that would spare poor kids from being shaken down, for their lunch money.

Nobody wants to embarrass the kids. Imagine the shame of using a snap free lunch card.

Good point, but the poor kids are obviously not paying cash, anyway. It would be better if none of the kids paid cash, or carried cards. They could use a cash register receipt, backed up by a video record, for accounting/billing purposes and student identification.

Why is Amazon storing Capital One's credit applications ? My wife and I each get 3-4 credit one applications a week in our mail.

One of Amazon's businesses is data hosting and their Cloud.

Great show, watched it last night too! Next week is Saturn. We know so much more about the planets and solar system than we did even a decade or two ago, much less when we were in school. Love these kinds of shows more now than when I was younger......maybe more time to take it in.

...and when the statement was made toward the end (I'm paraphrasing here) that our Milky-way galaxy contained 500,000,000 other solar systems AND that there were 500,000,000 GALAXIES out beyond our galaxy, I don't think any of us can get a real grasp of that reality. What's smaller than a speck !?

Yep, we're pretty insignificant in the big picture. Just make the best of it.

Yeah, and with all those gazillions of galaxies and planets and stars and moons, it just stands to reason that WE are NOT the only intelligent life in the universe.
