You're right, Mitch. Another "instructor"? I should imagine there are plenty of them out there, where finger-up is part of their self-expression, huh.

There are very few people that while at a podium do not make use of their hands and fingers gesticulating to emphasize their points.

Those that do not tend to be lacking in passion over their own materials and positions. They also tend to drone on and on.....

True, of course. But behaviorists explain a particular interpretation of the finger-up gesticulation = stick; spear, whatever (long and phallic), whacking the listeners over the head with the pay-close-attention-I-am-the boss-of what-you-NEED-to-be-thinking, bub."

And, while we are on the topic of public speaking, I continue to eagerly watch for and search for professional athletes who can speak beyond a single sentence without having to use the "filler" , "You Know..." Two sentences = time for the second "You Know." Third sentence = time to interrupt that sentence with a "You know" then finish it off with another "You know."

Tell me I'm wrong.

Having attended countless lectures from Nobel Laureates and Nat'l Academu members, that is very true and every one of them totally believe what they are saying is critical to you. One in particular that I have collaborated with for close to 30 years, whose very career is as long as my entire lifespan, appears to be a totally innocuous gnome of a person............until he is at a podium and takes command of an auditorium and your attention is fully in his control. Sadly, we have very few of his ilk remaining.

And, while we are on the topic of public speaking, I still eagerly watch for and search for athletes who can speak beyond a single sentence without having to use the "filler" , "You Know..."

It's not in the least limited to athletes - stick a microphone in front of almost everyone and linguistic chaos erupts - few they are that can assemble and then speak in coherent sentences.

Certainly, and painfully, embarrassingly, true. I watched a Congressman being interviewed recently who used "you know" after every second WORD, for sentence after sentence (I use that term loosely there), for the entire duration of his replies. Egad.

Yes, watching CSPAN makes it painfully clear that some, not all, but far too many, of the folks "serving" us in Congress are at best extraordinarily inarticulate. Considering that they make their living thinking and talking, perhaps the current state of affairs is understandable.

There you go again. Poking fun at Trump.

His hands never stop moving and once he grabs onto an adjective, he uses it to the point of distraction. List night talking about the Opioid epidemic. He used the phase "truly devastating" and I believe the word "truly" came out of his mouth at least a dozen times in the next 20 seconds. I truly (haha) believe he is a good example for the "less is more" arguement. Or maybe, a modified version of "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." :D :D :D :D

Actually, no. I was thinking of 1 specific Nobel winner that was excruciating to sit through.
