Unavoidable - Seoul is way too close and it's not the initial detonation that is the real problem as much as everything afterwards.

More importantly, how soon after that happens do you think that China responds?

It depends on how fast we can knock out their command and control systems. We'd have to pre-emt an NK artillery attack on Seoul. After NK shoots their ICBM load at us, We'd still have to go in, and remove the regime.

Things have changed a lot in China since 1950. I wouldn't expect them to simply fall in with NK again, and attack us. Frankly, I'd expect them to work with us.

South Korea's capital is approx. 35 mi from NK, containing 23,000,000 people and 100.000 of those are Americans.
