I like the Adler Eole. Wikipedia says, "On 8 October 1890, the machine achieved a short flight of around 50 m (164 ft) at the Chateau d'Armainvilliers in Brie. It reached a height of around 20 cm (8 in)." Where is the photo proof Wiki?

Are one out of three chances of a successful flight good odds?

I never found much use for Feynman Diagrams. Once Feynman, before explaining Feynman Diagrams, told a classroom full of students, "You are not going to understand this... The reason you are not going to understand is because your teacher does not understand it."

Do you, or anyone working for you, use Quantum Electrodynamics in your line of work Rufus?

:? "Successful flight below runway surface"?
In a box?! :(
Funny guy.

Maybe we should have the Murph try paragliding? (Next time I'm Upstate New York. Yup. Talk about flying potbellies! I'll step off the nearest hillside, trying to avoid freshly manured corn fields on the way down.)

50 - 60 years ago I might have tried paragliding. And Bungi jumping. Off the New River bridge in West Virginia.
I can just imagine the feeling. :D :D :D You gotta be a little nuts for that. I would have fit the mold back then.

My wife wants to go up in a balloon and try sky-diving, for real.( AND she has assured me that all our insurance policies are current.) I wish her well, since I'd be the one smashed without her. For me, tackling the nation's highways, esp. here in the NE, are enough challenge and excitement for a day ( I love driving, actually), or taking a night-time walk in Manhattan. Yeah , when pigs fly.

Yeah. It seems that a lot/most of the stuff I/we liked to do is not really safe anymore. :( :(

Perhaps we seek a balance between adventure and wise caution?

Murph, Suggest you take her liquor cabinet key away. Back before the Challenger disaster, my father said he would like to take a ride on the space shuttle. My response was: "I'd sooner ride a bomb." Proved to be quite prophetic.

Closest activity would be one of my collaborators doing some quantum mechanical calc's on the chemistry of At and Zr(IV)........

One can buy coins of most elements on ebay.

I read Charles Forgy's paper on Astatine: Halogen or Metal? Astatine fires the imagination.

The Astatine coins are hard to get. Seller usually warns, "Hurry, these won't last long."
When I click, "Buy", the response is always "Sorry, Astatine is gone, but we still have some bismuth coins available."

Very thoughtful of you to provide that link for me. I am aware of Moon Township, PA, since it has been part of my childhood hometown area around Pittsburgh. However, the name for my layout came from a different source. But Thank You, again, for the thoughtfulness .
