Healey, I read every word of the longest post in Jungle history. Are we getting old or is America losing the essence that gave it so much value? I just stay hidden way up here on the coast in our big old house because it makes me too sad otherwise. Here's the drawing you noted in the other TD drawing. This is from 1976 and was done with a ballpoint pen completely by eye. Not sure how I managed that.




One more picture of The Vermonter before it heads to the curb. I've learned to cut the tree into sections inside the parlor. Much easier than dragging the needle-spraying beast through the house.

The change to the tree was white candles instead of red.




Sarge and Jon, more toy soldier and drink pics. Those are classics, both.

Andre visited me at the recent (October) TCA Meet @ York and gave me one of his business cards - I have never seen anything like it. It instantly gave me the idea of his offering the service of making building signs for those of us who like to build buildings and craft scenes. For me, having realistic and attractive signs that name the business was a problem, esp. since I did not want them to look like something merely typed on a word-processor. His card is sturdy, thick (enough for a scale sign) and seems adaptable to millions of ideas. The card even felt cool.

My li'l business of Layout Refinements in doing maximum well - keeping me as busy as I can keep up with and want to be. On a different thread, you can see that I finished re-doing Lionel's layout at FAO Schwarz, once again.

Also, the last two October (2013; 2014) TCA Meets were Sell-outs for me. (I was not able to display at the April 2014 Meet because, by then, I had only crafted 7 Insta-Ramas ready for presentation. I usually take 38-41 with me.) I theorized that if the seven scenes sold during the first day - often a big selling day for me, gratefully - what would I do for Friday and Saturday with nothing to show of what I offer? Sure, meeting folks in-person is a significant factor in my presentation @ York (the stuff will sell when I am sitting there, seldom when I am on a break or left early,) but having no product to show sells nothing.

In fact, this past October Meet, I did sell-out by mid-day on Friday, and had only (wonderful good-fortune) the items not crated-up for customers to pick-up later that day and/or on Saturday to show.

Regarding your gracious inquiry about my posting photos of my work, here, on MTJ, historically, esp. of late, posting photos of my layout, of Insta-Ramas, and of on-site craftwork for clients has not seemed to evoke much conversation or interest (except from good ol' Roger) here, so I lost interest in posting them.

Thank you for your very kind interest, though, Tramp. Very nice of you, indeed. Exceptional.

I can't find the series of images Murph put up that yielded little response, but I saved a few of the images. Here is one of Murph's miniature masterpieces. Obvious to me why they are sell-outs. I think this one shows some of Hev's influence on Murph.

If you can't find them, it is because I removed them once I saw they were of little/no interest.

I appreciate your comments, Doc Wayne, not only because you are smart, and an excellent gentleman, but because you are an artist, witness your latest photographic masterpiece (hummingbird on approach to flower) that stopped everybody in their tracks.

That scene is one of my very favorites, but I had my doubts if it would find a mini-market, being focused on a part of our culture that appealed, it appeared to me, to just some folks to have on a layout. However, I figured, what-the-heck. I'd give it at try. If it stayed in the booth for longer than three TCA Meets, I'd keep it for myself on display in my trainroom/showroom, or I'd pull it apart and use the elements elsewhere. Several such subject-based Insta-Ramas have sold, this one, as it turned out, sold within the first fifteen minutes the first day it was displayed. It found its market, albeit ut a limited one - I just had to wait for it to walk into my booth.

And you are correct, Hev did influence that piece since I had not observed if the folks symbolically represented there had flowers on their properties. He sent me a photo of such a vehicle parked in a driveway next to his house, which had flowers edging the driveway. Question answered, as far as I was concerned. plus, Hev sent me photos of that white-board fencing in Lancaster, so I was able to try my best at an interpretation of it for that vignette. Also, I wasn't exactly sure how they "parked" but visits to Lancaster, PA answered that question, too.
