...Drivers license for illegal aliens ...in California. They have been trying for license for illegals for years. ....

As soon as i heard that news this week, I wondered if the newly-licensed "illegals" will be doing their due-diligence and being certain to buy the proper insurance to protect those they might drive a vehicle into. The other side of "rights" or privileges is responsibility, IMnot-soH opinion.

Was out and about today...took the camera along...

Ex-Pennsylvania RR/Frederick Secondary Line trestle south of Taneytown, Maryland:

This is a few miles southeast of Keysville and Terra Rubra, birthplace of Francis Scott Key. This trestle is still used by the MAryland Midland Railway for their connection to Walkersville, Maryland.

Mumma Ford Road bridge over the Monocacy River:

Bridge was built in 1911 by the York Bridge Company. It's a double-span, 229 ft., Pratt truss with steel arches. Its wooden plank deck was replaced recently with a new steel perforated deck. Should be good for another hundred years...that's my tilt, not the bridge.

The bridge's builder's plate was missing:

This plate lists the county commissioners and clerk at the time the bridge was built. Even in 1911 politicians had to slap their name on stuff.

Monocacy River:

It's been dry and the river is low.

Looking west to the Blue Ridge range:

This is Catoctin Mountain in the distance, location of the presidential retreat at Camp David.

Was the Pratt truss built for a railroad or highway?

This bridge was built as a road bridge...the Western Maryland's bridge over the Monocacy is a mile or so down-stream. Maryland's Carroll and Frederick Counties have a large number of these old truss bridges, some being on the National Register. The Pratt truss design was commonly used for both rail and road bridges from the mid-1800's up to the early 1900's.

Yeah, I have found a few errors in there as well, especially as related to built-dates. With regards to these old bridges, one of the things that is disheartening is how many have had their builder-plates stolen. It is beyond my comprehension why some moron would take it upon themselves to chisel it off and walk away with it. There must be a market for cast-iron builder plates. It's unfortunate...

Calif is about to pass the toughest regulations on Fracking in the nation. There is 15 billion barrels in the San Jaoquine Valley. We have the highest gas tax in America.

What a crock that is, Wayne. I wonder just how disingenuous the anti-fracking crowd can get? There has not been one single case in the U.S. where fracking has screwed up any water wells. Fracking takes place far below the water table. Where they have shown that they could light the water from a faucet, they fail to inform the public that the problem is methane, which is naturally occuring in the ground. Geologists have discovered that the U.S. has more oil and natural gas than Saudi Arabia, and it just drives the "hate America" environmentalists nucking futs!
