Sarge, I have an uncle, Sir John Ford, yes, the one who got his arse booted out of Canada during his last posting, who drove an XJ6. He continually said he needed another one just to have one running. Nice car, but boy that Borg Warner automatic was a lousy shifter.

Hmm, wonder where in WVA that car is? Have to give Seth a call about it. His brother said he might let it go for 3.

Purely out of curiosity, I'd like to hear how far down into WV it's located as well. When I was a kid my father drug me down deep into the bowels of WV on his quest for a Chrysler Airflow. The location was a few miles south of Elkins. To his credit it was an Airflow. Unfortunately it had done time as part of a pigeon roost...

Roger, John was a career British diplomat who was posted all over the world. While serving as Vice Counsel in San Fran he met my mother's youngest sister and they got hitched. He and Lady Emmalene had two daughters. His last post was in Ottawa. About 6 months before retirement he was at a party and apparently had one too many. Anyhow, he made some comment about the necessity of having London approve Canadian bills. I do not know exactly but at least at that time Canada was not completely independent. This is/was a very sore point with our Northern friends. Word got out about his statement and Ottawa gave him 24 hours to leave town and never come back!

I would not be surprised if the Queen didn't want to whack him again with her sword, but this time with a horizontal swing of a meat cleaver!

As we go step by step ever closer to having this little perisher well sorted, today sees new tyres for the Midget. Tomorrow, front springs and a tighten of the near-side front wheel which I've loosened by driving the car often; old wheel bearings that have stood for many years...

Meanwhile Piddles the MGB watches the proceedings with some disdain and continues to demonstrate to the wee one how a civilised car should behave.

Another non-fascinating saga in the newest episode on my mini RollsR.

Engine starts and runs just like new. The original fuel pump packed it in sometime in the last century so an electronic pump was plumbed in. The present distributor is electronic with a reluctor and pickup. The power module and coil have their own newer wiring, I think, because there are two unused connectors, one 3 wire and the other 2 wire wrappped around a cable. Switched 12V is available there for the pump mounted under the power module. New fuel and vacuum lines and away we go! Got a pair of air horns to replace the old electric ones. They may not see me coming but they sure as heck can hear me! The carb, so far, is behaving itself. Hot water choke works properly.

Got a replacement fuel tank. The old sender was a ball of rust so a new one is on the way.

The Monza muffler arrived but I need an exhaust pipe 1 1/2 x 5 feet, nearly straight. I stopped in at a muffler shop today for an estimate. Would you believe I was quoted a price between 3 and 4 HUNDRED dollars???? Minimum of 2 hours at $150 per! At this rate it is cheaper for me to get a stock SS system and throw away everything except the pipe and install it myself! BTW, I have all the clamps and mounting parts. Just one nearly straight stupid piece of pipe! Grrr!

Don't worry; "MGs on the Rocks" is this weekend and Healey and I are going with camera (and chequebook) in hand, so more cars-in-a-field pictures are on the way!

I had the same problem.When i want a custom exhaust for my bike. a local shop wanted crazy money to do it. So i made it myself. With a few simple tools you can to. I used my Weber grill like a forge. When you use firewood and a hair dryer it burns real hot. Pack your pipe to be bent with sand and weld the ends shut. place the pipe in your grill and hit the fire with the hair dryer. When the pipe turns red bend it. For my bike i used ho flex track to map out the pipe route. my jeep had a trailer hitch that worked out great for bending the pipe.so did this little block you see in the photo.

Robert, I was thinking along the same lines but in my case I would use my acetyline torch. The problem is forming the flair in one end for the clamp and donut gasket. Now to order some pipe!

Huh? That's crazy money...you can get the whole exhaust from the down-pipe back for $190 (excluding shipping) from Moss:

$150/hour labor-rate for a muffler shop...wow...

...which means order it from Moss then sell the stock silencer itself on eBay, unless avoiding the fitting up exercise isn't worth it to you, this of course assuming the Monza is intended to use the stock pipework.
