Here's a cute video, one to kickstart the Christmas spirit...

In 2 and 1/2 minutes, a complete misanthrope gets his heart changed by a cute little redhead.

Cross streets were trolley cars; rest were cable cars.

Hev, I went back to check the video, because I couldn't figure out what the H you were talkng about. It was supposed to be a video about a misanthrope and a young redhead...

Sh*t, they removed it. Too bad. Great video, though the San Fran street scene is pretty cool too.

Too bad the original video didn't have sound. Then it would have been sublime.

Here is your misanthrope Dirt. He has just been struck by Cupid's arrow and is starting after the young redhead. (Hard to see her hair color under that hat.)
The approach…

Street cars, cable cars, automobiles, two horse truck wagons and pedestrians were added to the street to create more action for the camera. I spotted license number 4876CAL seven times in Dirt's version of the video.

Image

If you watch 4867CAL you will see it either stop over at the curb to wait for the cable car with the camera to pass or make a u-turn in front of it. Then 4867CAL passes again... and again... Several other cars (including one with no license plate) are performing the same maneuvers.

Pedestrians are performing "extra" parts also, crossing the street just as the camera cable car comes by.

The film makers got lots of help from kids without having to ask for it.

Regarding the date this video was made: License plate 4876CAL was issued to Jay Anway in early 1906. The date given in Dirt's version of the video (1905) came from the Library of Congress. It is clearly the wrong date.

About half of San Francisco survived. Dirt's video was restored from one of three surviving copies that were sent to New York prior to the earthquake. The film maker's (Miles Bros.) studio was destroyed in the earthquake.

So when my wife opts for flannel pajamas over silk nighties, does mean the honeymoon is over?
