Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Hey, that's my bid!
Don't any of you hoboes try to pick me off at the last second either - that baby's MINE.

Re: Hobo Jungle
No disrespect to anybody, but what is the attraction?
(Anyolways, I have ***umed good ol' Wayne is messin' around, esp. given that the second GooGoo has what appears to be an airplane motor in the back "seat". Plus, we all know what a kidder that Wayne is. Ya'll have left me wondering, though....

Murph,
There is only one Goggo. The first image was what it looked like when I picked it up at the docks fifty years ago. I kept it because I knew it would be worth something someday. I made Jon a reasonable offer for such a rare automobile, but he made fun of it. Then Roger poked fun at it. In stepped Mike, who offered to "tune" it up so it would have more power. He replaced the 250 cc engine with a 10,000 cc radial. It is awesome now!
You don't see the attraction of a micro car with a 623 cu-in, 360 HP, 666 ft-lb torque engine? You don't see the attraction of racing someone from a stop light, leaving a burn mark on the side of their car from your exhaust and achieving 100 mph as you cross the cross walk on the other side of the street?
When I made that trip to San Francisco in the Goggo roads were still mostly two lane. I came up behind a '57 Chevy who slowed down. When I pulled out to pass, he sped up to match my top speed. Every time another car came over the hill, I had to jam the brakes on to get behind the Chevy. After three iterations, I turned off and waited ten minutes before proceeding. Never caught up with the Chevy. If that happened with the Goggo after Mike's tuned up, I would burn a line along the left side of the Chevy, leaving the two red-necks wondering what had just happened as I disappeared over the hill spewing flames out of both sides of the Goggo
D,
Try just a little higher. You have not met my reserve yet. Or hold off. If nobody meets the reserve, you can have it for what I offered it to Jon for.

No, even when I was a teenager (and exactly like you pictured me on this forum, oncewebenda wrote:Murph,

...I am surprised you drive a BMW instead of a Volvo if you can't see the attraction.
Volvos? A decade or two ago, a cousin drove me into NYC in one, during the summer. The effect of its alleged "air conditioning" was exactly like having two weak inebriates blowing through straws on our sweaty knees, and not a puff more of coolness. In the winter, we experienced a similar effect trying to defrost the rear window after having been in the car for an hour! Nope. Not me. Wouldn't even give them a try.
I switched to Mercedes Benz (GLK). Yet, I do still have a soft-spot for my former Beemers; I've been caught giving a lonesome, "Sniff. ..sniff..." when one passes, giving longing glances, and using a winsome tone when reverently speaking of those former glorious Beemer days. But I love my new Benz, too, baby. Very functional and dependable, w/ just a zap of pazaaaazz. IMHO. Solid sound, ride, and feel.
Little carfarts are not my thing; ha-evah, I do admire and like the Mini Cooper - very stylish and understated - but I wouldn't want one or even try to fit my fat intentions into one, alas.
(P.S. How do you like my heavily edited and shorter response, here?

Me either anymore. That is why I am selling it.
P.S. That's short?

Wayne, although I sincerely appreciate the offer, if I wanted to kill myself at 130 mph I would prefer to do it on a good old American Harley.

Nope.
(But this was.)
Re: Hobo Jungle
Jon, thanks for the link!
That
was
ONE
BITCHIN'
VIDEO!!!
Love that biplane falling back on itself at 1:15, and the jets in formation in the dark at 2:10.
Never knew a helicopter could do a barrel-roll (at 2:35). Any idea what the flames were from at 2:28? Too cool!! Loved the yellow plane doing somersaults at 3:00.
And how freakin' gorgeous was that flag under the hangglider at 3:25!!
Can't wait to show the kids!!

Re: Hobo Jungle
The Goggo joke went farther than I imagined it would. Time to separate truth from lie.
Jon started it. (True, he said, "What a dreary world it would be if everyone drove a Yugo.")
Rufus encouraged me. (True, he said, "Do you still want me to send you that Trabant then?")
I owned two Hans Glas Goggomobiles. (True, but only for a few months. People kept making offers for them.)
Mike dropped a radial engine in my Goggo. (Lie, it was Uwe Wulf who dropped a radial engine in his own Goggo.)
The Radial Goggo is for sale on EBay. (Lie, my fabrication.)
Daisy has high bid on a Radial Goggo. (Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't. Bids are confidential.)
Doug, those bumper cars seem to have left everyone speechless. I have driven those things on a metal floor at the carnival, but never on the road. I wonder how they handle?

Oh, man...
You guys are still on little four-wheel fartbubbles whilst I was wallowing in images of B17s, a parade of C47s and DC3s, MiG21s, Mustangs, a beautiful Ford Tin-Goose, and what was that at the end but the quickest glance of a Sea-Tempest?
One little anemic Russian radial in a glorified bumpercar, versus gobs of horsepower wrapped in beauty, dripping with history.
Where, oh where, are our priorities....

Re: Hobo Jungle
Wayne,
I could read on the link you provided that Uwe Wulf made that abomination. I confess to enjoying a brief visualization of taking a few laps around the DC Beltway
I was more impressed that the little thing did not twist and fold up on itself as well as with the machining of a transmission to make it work.
Of course, it's not one of these........

Thanks Jon for a mega cool video!
Man I love biplanes, always wanted one..
What I REALLY want though is a Merlin engined motorcycle. A slightly lengthened Norton Featherbed should hold it nicely.
