They can already hack your car now; most cars already have a connection in them for communications, WiFi, etc...

Does that have to do with control of the actual vehicle itself or just contact with the phone you may have aboard?

Some cars, both - this was something demonstrated a few years ago - nothing new. Alexa, start my car.....or that phone app that starts it remotely.

If it's got any connectivity, it can be exploited or will be. BTW, your toaster is spying on you.

I know a guy with a Land Rover who couldn't get into it, because of an electrical problem. His key worked, but the lock was both mechanical and electrical.

Maybe it just personal,

But the key to my Outback is like that - need to use the fob or the alarms go off. $300+ for a new one.....

Saw this video and it reminded me of a trip I did with my college roommate back in the summer of 1976. It was a round-the-horn trip of the U.S., and along the way we hit Pikes Peak. I think we paid $50 to drive up to the top (might have been more, but I can't remember). I don't recall it looking like this, sections of it were still dirt. We took it kinda slow as we didn't want to ding up his new Nova. Even at thirty miles-an-hour it was scary. Anyway, I remember thinking then, and after watching this video, now more than ever, you gotta be crazy to go after this...

While sitting in a friends car. I received a text from my wife. When i sent one back to her. It was displayed on the cars dash. From that point on. My iphone will tell where my friends car is parked. Every time i open my phones gps. I see the last location of his car.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Healey,

Great video! From what I see, they would have to pay me the $50 to go up there!

In the late 40s on a vacation to Colorado we went up pikes peak Our car was a 37 Plymouth. It was pretty much all dirt road back then. I liked it but my mom was not to thrilled about it.

My daughter and son-in-law drove up Pike's Peak in the late 1990s. The toll was $5.00.
My wife and I rode the train. Don't remember the cost but not too high during that same time period.
The day after my daughter drove up, 2 mothers and 3 kids died when their cars brakes failed on
the down trip and they went over the hill.
I had a friend who used to drive tours up the peak. They were regulated to make the trip each way
in a minimum amount of time and got fined by the tour company if they were too quick.
I don't think there was a speed limit but that may have changed.

Hot Rod magazine used to cover the Pikes Peak race each year. All racing is going as fast as you think you can just before you will shurley crash.

If you watch the video in Healey's post, they mention that the Sierra Club sued the outfit that puts on the Hill Climb claiming contamination to streams from the gravel displaced by the racers, so that's when they paved the road!

Kiddie pedal toy meets Vespa. I'd wear a mask if I was riding it, too.
