If I may ask, what would a "micro-brewery" look like - the physical building; the whole brewery campus? What would be its component parts and visible - from the outside - details?

You've given me much to consider, James. Thank you for the reply and its numerous instructive details.

Oh yes, I read about that, when I Googled "brewery," where some "micro-breweries" have a bar/tavern as part of their establishment so that customers can taste first-hand what has been made (crafted?) in the brewery.

I was hoping, given the considrable interest expressed on this forum concerning beer, that some guys might have personal favorite experiences w/ micro-breweries from which I could learn as I consider crafting such a scene. I've re-read this thread in its entirity and taken notes, esp. regrading the wide variety of labels and tastes (I never knew chocolate was an ingredient in such a beverage, for example!)

I much enjoyed and learned from what Britbloke has instructed in this thread regarding beers and such. Also, I learned a little further about the differences among ales, beers, stouts, etc. from my Googling. I've learned, but I am not inspired by any particular site yet.

Thank you, Roger, for the input and interest in being helpful to me.

For our friend Jon, who prefers beers with the taste of hops, this one has been back on the market for almost 2 years now, having gone out of business in the late '70s. It's already won one award. It's a pilsner, slightly more hoppy than Labatts Blue.

I remember Duquesne [Duke] from my high school days in eastern Ohio.It was,IMHO,one of the better "local"beers.Much better than Fort Pitt.

Our home town brewery,Matz, made Old Steamboat as its premium beer. The best thing about it,to a teen-ager,was that it was cheap.

If it weren't too much trouble, would you explain what those terms and descriptions mean/ If it's too much trouble and too tiresome, I'd understand, of course.

I'm going to be re-reading, what Britbloke has taught me so far, several times, to have it penetrate my imagination, in addition to having Googled "micro-breweries." Not being much of a beer drinker (I think I had my latest one - a John Adams (in a glass full of ice :? ) - back in the mid-90's;) yet, and being from Pittsburgh, no less, I still have no idea what the following terms actually say:
beer
pilsner
ale
cream ale
stout
stout ale
coffee stout
lager
Irish style

Did I leave something out? :?

When I model my scenes, I'm going to feature hops being delivered and mash being removed (JW Clarke mentioned such a dumpster in his reply) for use as food for pigs or fertilizer (I've just learned about this aspect.)

P.S. Pitt, Duke, and Iron City beers were easily available to us as adolescents, during the 60's, in the hometowns of the metropolitan Pittsburgh area. However, if any trouble did manifest, we simply made the quick trip across the border to Youngstown, Ohio, where the guarts for swilling and the girls for kissing were plentiful. The return trip homeward was for the obligatory spewing.

Murph,

Various types of Malt Beer/beverages.

In my younger days which ended about 20 years ago,I probably drank most types of alchoholic beverages.I started with beer very early. My grandmother sent me to a local ,as she called it,beer joint every day to get a gallon of draft beer for her.It cost 15 cents.Of course on the short trip home I would need to test the quality of the brew before I got home. When I got to high school it was just as easy to get other forms of beverages and I tried almost everything.I liked some of the wines that were made in my primarily Italian neighborhood but I did/do not like store bought wine.
One last thing about beer,IMHO most people in this country want their beer ice cold and that kills the flavor of good beer.
