Dirt was drinking at Gomer's. Toward the end of the evening he hoisted his beer and yelled, "Here's to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!"

That won him the top prize at the bar for the best toast of the night. The rest of the hobos were amazed Dirt could string that many words together and still make sense.

He staggered home and told his wife, "I won da prize for the bess toast of the night."

She said, "Did ya now. And what was your toast?"

Dirt, no slouch while fully lubricated, said, "Here's to spending da rest
of me life, sitting in church with me wife."

"Oh, that is very nice indeed!" said the redhead.

The next day, Red ran into one of Dirt's hobo buddies on the street corner.

The hobo, nervous around the redhead anyway, blurted out, "Dirt won the prize the other night at Gomer's with a toast about you."

Red nodded. "He told me, but I was a bit surprised. You know, he's only been there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Pete's Son Aaron!!!!!!!!!

"Thank you SIR, Uncle Jon SIR!!!"

Thanks for the 'nod' to Wayne and André, too! 8)

We took Aaron and a couple of his friends to the IMAX theatre in Harrisburg, to see both "Under the Sea", a 45 minutes documentary, and "A Christmas Carol" with Jim Carrey, both in IMAX 3-D.

HOLY F*CK!

I haven't seen a 3-D movie since the dark ages, when they used red and blue filters. Nowadays, (Wayne will give us the facts), they must use some kind of polarization, because both of the lenses are a gray tint, and look entirely similar. Moreover, they are as huge as clown-glasses, which allows you to see the big screen unimpeded.
IMAX theatre seating is VERY steep also, which almost places your feet at the head level of the row in front of you, so the entire screen is completely visible.

But the IMAGE!!!!!
It blends seamlessly, but the 3-D effect cannot be put into words. There is a scene in "Under the Sea" where some sea-lions are playing above a kelp bed, and being curious creatures, one swims cautiously right up to the camera lens. Now, that screen is 30-40 feet away, but with those glasses on, the absolutely undeniable thing your brain is screaming at you is that that sea-lion is about to kiss you right smack on the lips. It is a visceral, almost emotional reaction, and to a person, everyone in the theatre reached out in front of them. And a scene where it was snowing in "A Christmas Carol", you would swear that the snow is landing right in your lap, it is that real! It is startling to the max, the first time!!

I loved the movie. I have a small collection of all of the vintage "Christmas Carol" movies, and watch one every year, as I have done since I was a kid. This one will be added. The conception, and the animation, is stunning, and is an excellent compliment to all the others.

But something big will be lost in 2-D.
I'd be curious if any of you guys have ever seen anything 3-D, and your impressions.
And if you ever get a chance to see something in 3-D in IMAX format, it will be worth missing your wedding anniversary or your wife's birthday to catch it!
 :D
A good birthday indeed!

I was going to say it's more like "Once a day and twice on Sundays", but you'd have known I was a big fat liar!

It's only once on Sundays.

Pete, I've never seen a 3-D movie in my life. I rarely watch movies or network television. The last time I was in a movie theater was to see "A Few Good Men". When was that? '92? However, I was in one of those circular type theaters in Cedar Point, (you didn't wear glasses), and the movie playing was a forest fire, with about umteen eleven of those speakers as big as refrigerators just blastin', and it was kinda like you were right in the middle of the fire.

As for "A Christmas Carol", while I've never been a fan of Bill Murray, (Scrooged), or Jim Carey, (I can't stand to look at him), I'll usually watch something like that if it comes on TV. My favorite of all times though is the George C. Scott version, followed by the '50s version with Allistair Simms.

Despite the fact that Charles Dickens was a liberal, I still like him.

Dirt,

I have seen 3-D with the two colored glasses several times. One of the movies from that time period,1950s & 60s.IMHO was Hondo. Many of the effects were very good for that time.I also remember The Creature From The Black Lagoon in 3-D.
I have seen IMAX but not the 3-D version that requires glasses. The effects,to me,were pretty darn good without glasses.
I would like to see IMAX in 3-D.Unfortunately,there is no IMAX theater near my area.

Pete, a belated birthday best to Airborne! Sounds like he had a great day.

Mitch, have you ever noticed that most intelligent people have been or are liberal?

liberal |ˈlib(ə)rəl|
adjective
1 open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values that may have made them miserable.

• favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms : liberal citizenship laws. The basic tenents that the United States of America were founded on.

2 [ attrib. ] (of education) concerned mainly with broadening a person's general knowledge and experience.

3 given, used, or occurring in generous amounts : liberal amounts of beer had been consumed.
• (of a person) giving generously : Dirt was too liberal with the beer at Gomer's. He made everyone very happy.
