I KNEW I had seen that headgear somewhere before. You don't suppose Dirt had that vision subliminally in his mind and just ooozed it out, all of a sudden like, not remembering? By the way, that WOMAN (spoken w/ an adoring sound in one's voice) the boys created was as favorite to me as linda carter was as Wonder Woman,some years ago. Ohhlordee...)

And as far as that nubile young lady is concerned, she appears to be 12 or 13, so That poster is a little too unsettling for me. I'll step away from commenting on that one any further.

Pete!! What a smashing idea!! I ordered the "sports" model because I have such an active lifestyle!
I haven't been bit by a gnat since donning the piece, but my neighbors are giving me some odd looks.

Jon, all true pioneers had to face the ridicule and disdain of the uneducated masses.

Rufus, for instance, misses the point entirely, and dredges the sophomoric humor of some fraternity boys (one doesn't even have his ears covered!) to disparage our serious efforts to bring relief to the suffering outdoor workers and enthusiasts. It seems likely to me that, despite his claims to the ownership of a Farmall Cub, he employs a gardener to accomplish his real-world work.

Back to our mission. My prototype had the distinct disadvantage of needing to be tied under the chin in ungainly fashion, a knot that could easily dislodge at the worst of moments, as when up on a ladder with paint in one hand and brush in the other. Moreover, the containment strap across the top of my head was beginning to be uncomfortable. I see you've refined the design considerably in both regards, and you are to be commended for your thoughtful efforts.

Keep the faith, brother, despite the sarcasm of the doubters. I think we're on to something big.

One has to wonder if they work to block or prevent the access of the irritating insects, or if the poor bugs just take one look and die laughing....guess that counts as going green these days,


BTW, my daughter was quite peeved with the battery giving out on the Cub while taking a break from hauling crushed stone out to repair the road; something about my getting off the hook from my exercise plan... So, I had to hand crank it....

Murph and Carl, Rufus' 'whip' image was of Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame, who was born in April 1990, so indeed, she WAS legal.
In Rufus' defense, I also think Emma Watson's face was grafted onto another picture.

What we oughta do is pick a Saturday late in October and all of us meet at Horseshoe Curve. Hev could pick up Pete with the horse and buggy, and me and Marty can find our own way. We could watch trains for awhile, then grab somethin' to eat and drink and converse a bit. Mother Nature should be in full color by the third or fourth week. How 'bout it.

Mitch, I missed this yesterday. Sounds great to me!! I've never seen Horseshoe Curve, and if either of youse guys could make it, it would be awesome beyond all recognition.

I mentioned on the tractor thread about making a cruise to Tamaqua Pa for coalstove parts. They have an old P&R station they preserved, and though I had but minutes (kids to pick up at school), I took a couple of pics.

Here's the station, listed as a historical site...



...the freight end...



...and the passenger...



...and if you listen close, you can hear the rail poppin' and a steam whistle off on the outskirts, see people hustling and kissing goodbye...



...and hear the baggage carts crunching on the brick.



They have a preserved but out-of-place watch-box and a pair of cabooses...



...a what? Dinky?



And somebody tell me about this- it's obviously a self-driven engine, but it's all boiler,- there's hardly room for an engineer in the rear, and no seat.



Tamaqua's an old anthracite coal town, still with a working mine, but like all the coal towns, it's economically depressed and down on it's luck. And with all these old coal towns, there are neighborhood bars, seemingly at least two per block. Be a comfortable town for a hobo. Matter-of-fact, I just saw Tramp stumbling into this very one...
