My Son-in-law had some red potatoes that he grew this year and brought my wife and I some and they are really good.

Went over to the Pa.Steam Railroad today, it was the last day of a 3 day fall meet and I haven't been over there since I came out of the hospital. They were just packing things up so I didn't get but one picture but it was sort of a nice one.

Hope you enjoy it.

The important thing in this is with all the different aspects involved the regular participants on this forum seem to get along very well.Trains and fun are the main factors that make this forum work. Some that drop by now and then do not seem to understand this and get upset because we can disagree and still be friendly. They also haven't figured out that the diversity of personality and experience here makes it very difficult to "mess" with us.

The above is just my rambling opinion.

Unfortunately I think folks take a snapshot of some current discussion and walk away with an opinion based on that one visit. There is no arguing that this forum is set apart from other by it's candor but I certainly think that the variety of folks is what makes this forum fun and informational.

For as much as I love the train talk, the jungle even though I am not as a big participant is probably one of my favorite threads. I love Dirt's and Hev's tractor posts as well. Dirt's pictures of the country side make me wish I had some land like that. Jon never cease to crack me up and Tramps writing...well they speak for themselves.

I haven't met any of these folks personally but have a pretty good feeling that I would as they be welcomed to hoist a beer.

As I said I think too many folks make a decision base on a thread or two and not the whole of the forum.

Roger and Marty, well-stated!

I don't even belong here- I don't even have a layout. I just followed the hobos here from OGR, where they were castigated and vilified on a d*mn-near daily basis by a bunch of angry, hostile, anal-retentive pinheads who called it (in the most kindest of all that was said) "a waste of bandwidth".
But it's thanks to Bill from Wayne's generosity and patience that it resides here, and has become what it is, where I don't believe there's been a harsh word in 1200+ pages. Yes, pretty amazing. Lots of laughs, and much learned, Tramp's lessons on boxcars and somebodys gnat-prevention-device most recently.
And maybe it makes good business sense. If the Jungle draws viewers, maybe it makes MTJ more attractive to advertisers.
Anyway, it's been a hell of a run, and it's led me to some outstanding (and now long-standing) personal friendships. I'm WAY the richer.

Marty and Roger, I'd hoist a beer with you guys any day, and it would be my honor. Gentlemen both, and your postings are indicative.
Marty, you're a wee bit closer. Maybe we can pull it off someday, me and Hev head out to the Pennsylvania hinterlands and run into you and Mitch.

Andre, were only 25 miles from 3 Mile Island. They are starting to move 2 reactors from Port Depoist MD to Three Mile Island today. These were shipped from France across the Atlantic. It's gonna take till the end of the month to git them there. They are really heavy. There are reenforing all the bridges along the route which will bring it thru Lancaster County. They can only travel 3mph. I keep updated........................................

Three miles per hour? What are they using, Amish draft horses?

I remember getting behind a two story house (plus attic) moving down Burbank Blvd at 40 mph. All the windows were open and the curtains blowing straight out the rear windows. The guy on the roof, whose job was to help the house move under low wires, was hanging on for his life.

Oh. I get it. The generators are for Three Mile per Hour Island.

Hev, there are a few secrets to making great fries. Do you know them? No need to ask if Wayne does. He probably knows more about both of us than we know about ourselves. Or he can find out.

Where is San? Anyone know? I'm being to worry about our most refined hobo.

Yes, been staying below the radar, out of the hub-bub, and away from the hurley-burley...

What we oughta do is pick a Saturday late in October and all of us meet at Horseshoe Curve. Hev could pick up Pete with the horse and buggy, and me and Marty can find our own way. We could watch trains for awhile, then grab somethin' to eat and drink and converse a bit. Mother Nature should be in full color by the third or fourth week. How 'bout it.

Yet, I do enjoy when you speak. Its sometimes-raw cynicism, epitomized by your avatar, of course, keeps one reminded that many things are laughable, and that not taking oneself too seriously can have positive benefits. Yup. Plus, it's kind of nice knowing you are ever-at-the-ready to point out the occasional contretemps, esp. by this poster. I'm serious. You have a way of keeping a fella humble.

They're giving you "odd looks," Big John, because you have it on wrong. :P Check Dirt's avatar again, or are you exercising self-expression?

 Oooorrrrr, try it on your way , but add the home-defense unit in your hands. Now, there will be an image worth the worldwideweb!
(Ohlordee, ther must really be zumpin' wrong w/me - i can't believe I just posted that. It's your fault, Hev, you're the one who gets us all riled -up with clean-livin' and plain-talkin'. Yup. I blame you. Maybe Dirt, too. And come to think of it, Rufus and Mitch (If a man is alone in a forest...) I mean , you don't get more down-to-earth than those aforementioned characters do ya'. It's all enough to make a city-man get off the asphalt and head for the fields!
Have a nice night, gents.
(I know, I know,Mitch, what the hellam I talkin' about?)

Murph, I'm pretty sure my headgear is properly adjusted per the instructions. The difference you're seeing between Pete's headgear and mine is probably due to the fact that Pete ordered the ahem for lack of a better word.. the more "robust" version.

I stand corrected. So, lets' see the whole get-up, if ya' dare - the "halo" and the "home defense" gear, all as one dynamic image...huh...huh? :P
