Fair enough. Here comes number 2 (second round). Drink up. Trains are gonna be running, whistles are gonna be calling out without regret and filling the wet summer air. Might even be sunny one of these days.

Hev, I guess it's gonna rain all summer. Like the man says, "Feels like it's raining all over the world." No matter. It's Friday. I'm buying a round for the house. Who's in?

F1 Safety

Postby webenda » Sun Jul 26, 2009 2:06 pm

Formula one is falling apart.

July 26, 2009 (AP)
F1 is facing safety questions after Alonso loses tire at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Spaniard's front right tire came off and bounced down the track after he rounded a corner. Another incident likely to put Formula One safety under the spotlight following Felipe Massa's crash.

The car owners will take care of this problem themselves. But the F1 committee feels that it is their responsibility to harass the racers. I can see it now... full roll cages over all the wheels.

I remember seeing a front wheel come off of a Group 7 race car at Laguna Seca back in 1963. The tire rolled up the embankment at the north end of the track and over the snow fence. (Spectators were seperated from the race by a snow fence back then.) Half the crowd ran east and half went west with me. Well, almost half. Five stayed. Four laid down. One young lady remained standing even though everyone was shouting, "Get down!" The tire split her forehead, folding it back over her head and knocked her down. It continued up the hill with guys trying to stop it and then shouting up the hill, "Watch out, it's hot!" It finally lost momentum and someone kicked it over so that it would not roll back down the hill. I went up to look at it. The axle was still in it. It had gotten so hot that it had turned blue and black. I think bearing failure caused the problem. The safety question was answered by replacing the fence with chainlink.

The lady that was injured looked bad, but was conscious. That is until she put her hand in the wound. Then she turned gray and passed out. The ambulance almost made it over to her before the tire stopped rolling. They rushed her directly to the hospital in Monterey. She was released from the hospital the next day with 27 stitches closing the wound.

The car that lost the wheel continued around to the pits. With the engine in the rear, the front of the car was light enough that it did not even drag the ground.

Tramp,

Thanks for reminding me. That 17 mb clip ought to be finished downloading by now... I started it on Saturday.
Oh yeah, there it is. Just a minute while I watch it.

3.:49 min later...

OH YEAH! Rachel is the definition of "89 years young."

Rachel seems like an honorary hobo. Maybe we should send her something?
