What a gorgeous family portrait. I saved that one.

Happy Easter to all you hobos.

Pete, I really enjoyed your abutment expose. Reminded me of many pleasant things, but particularly one wonderful day with my father walking an abandoned rail line.

Tramp, thanks!

I was riding in my car, listening to a Marc Cohn CD, and this song put me to mind of your Dad.
Of course, him being a Porsche and performance man, he'd probably gag, but the cars-and-Dads thing made me think of Marshall...

Silver Thunderbird

Watched it coming up Winslow
Down South Park Boulevard
Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood
Great big fins and painted steel
Man it looked just like the Batmobile
With my old man behind the wheel

Well you could hardly even see him
In all of that chrome
The man with the plan and the pocket comb
But every night it carried him home
And I could hear him sayin'...

"Don't gimme no Buick
Son you must take my word
If there's a God in heaven
He's got a Silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me I wanna go down
In a Silver Thunderbird"

He got up every morning
While i was still asleep
But I remember the sound of him shuffling around
Then right before the crack of dawn
I heard him turn the motor on
But when I got up they were gone

Down the road in the rain and snow
The man and his machine would go
Oh the secrets that old car would know
Sometimes I hear him sayin'...

"Don't gimme no Buick
Son you must take my word
If there's a God in heaven
He's got a Silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me I wanna go down
In a Silver Thunderbird"

Thank you, Highrailjon, for sharing such good news - that you are so blessed with the American dream, and that the captain is free - such a perfect way to bring Easter Sunday to a close.
Stay well, blessed, and happy.

Murph, beneath the soft under belly of this nation there is a warrior class that's not ashamed of this country or willing to negotiate with thugs.
We are blessed indeed.

Jon,

What a beautiful family portrait. We had a picnic after church and a full on Easter dinner tonight. Had room for a gonzo single speed mtn bike ride this afternoon. Saw three rattlers and came into a clearing only to come face to face with five deer. They didn't even spook, and stood their ground just looking at me, so I had a bit of time to check them out. Glad to say they are pretty healthy looking for urban deer.

Jon and San, I've mentioned before about a pair of Army planes that strafe us on occasion. I have no idea from where they originate, nor do we ever have any idea of how they'll be flying, because sometimes they'll be in formation way the hell up there, and no big deal, but sometimes they'll come in low and fast and circle around and rattle all the windows, like they're playing, and then it's tremendously exciting, but then they're hard to follow because of the treelines, until they're zooming right overhead.

Here's a satellite of the ridge we look at across the valley, and as it comes to an end by Orangeville, I think they use it as a sight-line, because they often come down one side and go back the other.

Image

When they come in low, I'm talking LOW... There was once they were flying up the valley behind us, and I could see fully 1/3 of the ridge ABOVE the planes!

Image

And by the topographical, that puts them at about 12-1400 feet, becasue my house sits at 800 ft.

Image

And the time he did that, he then cut upwards and disappeared over the ridge, doing a 360-rollover as he went over the top!
Anyway, I finally got a pic, though a blurry one, receding.
A10, no?

Image

Wish I knew when they'd be coming. I doubt that info is published!

Dirt Man, Looks like a Warthog, tank/artillery killer as well as as close support attack aircraft. Ask the Iraqi Republican Gaurd if they are any good.

Surfing thru E-Bay for some die-cast stuff, no luck so far, but did come across something that mite be of use if you happen to have a farm scene on your layout.
