In their day that "Cub" was a good little tractor, hell that's what I learned to drive on at about 10 or 11 yrs old. In that picture I would say that it's "day" was a hell of a long time ago. For several years ours didn't have a working starter so you had to use the hand crank and if you weren't real careful you could end up with your thumb up around your elbow.

I've still got the family's Model-F Cub with that lovely 6V positive ground electrical system.

I can remember both hand cranking it many times particularly after my Grandfather would roll it down the hill and pop the clutch to start it, and fail....

My daughter finds it to be fun to drive now - 4th generation use!

Doug,

You OK after the airplane crash today?

I can see that this is not San's neighborhood, so he should be OK.

Not much I can say that is not in the news. It is a ways from our home, although I could see the smoke from my office window at work.

I am not certain exactly where Doug is located so it would be good to hear from him.

You can have a look at the location by pasting this into your browser.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Cather+Avenue+and+Huggins+Street.,+san+diego,+ca&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=28.749334,79.101563&ie=UTF8&ll=32.862502,-117.198522&spn=0.007426,0.019312&t=h&z=16

The rail line is west of Miramar and not far from the Wye used by 3751 to get turned around on its last visit.

Thoughts and prayers for the three folks who lost their lives.

No problems here, I'm out in Escondido.
We seldom see the military fixed wing acft, but the rotary is a different story. Sometimes they are a bit noisey and will rattle some windows but as long as I can look up and see the Stars & Stripes on their sides it don't bother me none.
Best stay away from that area of University City, mite get trampled in the lawyer stampede hesding for the crash scene neighborhood. As they pull down the yellow tape it will probably look like that WalMart up in New York, except they'll be wearing three piece suits and carrying a briefcase.

San Diego contingent of the Hobo Jungle present and accounted for.

The pilot must feel really bad. He bailed when the aircraft started trimming tree tops. If he had waited another second, could he have crashed into Rose Canyon?

Our prayers go for those lost in the crash, their families, neighbors and for the pilot.

Are F-18 pilots trained in gliding and choosing places to crash?

Based on eye witness accounts, the student pilot of the F-18 that crashed into the San Diego neighborhood knew exactly how to do it. He came in at a steep angle, maintaining flying speed. Then, at the last minute he pulled up to clear the houses and crash into Rose Canyon. Almost made it.
