Hobo Jungle

Running that red block Charlie.
Re: Hobo Jungle
Andre, they're just supposing. There's a shroud beneath the tank to protect it from stuff getting kicked up, but then, cr*p collects between the shroud and tank. The mechanic couldn't actually visualize it- it's his educated-guess, and he's going to give it a critical eye once the new tank and sending unit is here. In the meantime, I need to drive the thing, and with the leak in the back, I'm taking the chance. Too cold for the Harley- I'd be ok to 10 degrees, but not 6.
I noticed a small puddle under the rear side of the car, maybe a foot in diameter. It's more than I would expect to see from a leaking pressurized-fuel line bleeding off the pressure after I parked, so I suspect the tank as well. Funny thing is, it's not there every time, like I would expect from a low-end leak, so it seems the leak is higher up on the tank, which would lead to another reason for the hole other than an erosion from crud. Who knows. Find out soon enough. Trouble is, everything is so packed-in, I think the leak runs along the tank or frame or shroud depending on how the ground is sloping, before it hits the ground, so it's hard to tell where it originates.
I had a tank leak on the Redhead's minivan a few years ago. I blew a gasket then, when I found out THAT tank was plastic, but I guess they are truly road-worthy. I wouldn't have believed it.

Jon,
I have seen the USMC Silent Drill Team in person more than five times. They always do the same things but vary the order in which they are done. This one left out two biggies, maybe because of the closeness of the audience:the rifle toss from the front of a file to the last man in the file and the walk between two files by the commander with the files spinning rifles.
You got it right---always AWESOME.

Re: Hobo Jungle
When my wife's Corvette radiator split the plastic end tank, I replaced it with a copper radiator. Solved two problems...
1) Does not require replacement every three or four years. (Been in car for nineteen years now with no trouble.)
2) Engine never runs hot during Tucson summers like it did during first four years here.
I had to replace it myself, because the dealer would only restore it to original crap. Guy at aftermarket radiator store helped me find one that fit.

Re: Hobo Jungle
First snow here in Maine today. The roads were oddly slick as D and myself rounded up a few more jars for the old mother.
Pete, I've posted so many poems and novel excerpts about riding the rails. I can post a few again if you want. Sorry about the gas leak. Nothing to be done but fix those.

Tramp, thanks, but that wasn't what I meant.
That said, the prose and poetry is awesome, stands alone, and more than suffices.

The Hobo and The End
"What is reincarnation?" the hobo asked his friend.
His pal replied: it starts when your life comes to its end.
They wash your neck and comb your hair and clean your fingernails,
They put you in a padded box, away from life's travails.
Now that box and you goes in a hole that's dug into the ground,
Reincarnation starts-in when your planted 'neath the mound.
Those clothes melt down just like the box and you who is inside,
And that's when you're beginning your transformation ride.
In a while, the grass does grow upon the rendered mound,
And then one day, on that lowly grave, a single flower is found.
Some day a horse might wander by, and graze upon the flower,
This thing that once was you, which had become your vegetative bower.
The flower that the horse will eat with all his other feed,
Builds bone and fat and muscle essential to the steed.
But there's a part that he can't use and so it passes through,
And there it lays, upon the ground, this thing that once was you.
Then if by chance I wander by and gaze upon the ground,
I'll wonder and I'll ponder at this object that I've found.
I'll think of reincarnation, of life and death and such,
And I'll come away concluding- "Why, you ain't changed all that much!"

Dirt,
The Hobo and the End.
Well, that makes good sense and probably describes my end except that I want to be cremated. So I will still end up as fertilizer.

Dirt man.....................remember me tellin' ya today about how we had a busy week with fire calls. I received pictures this evening. It all started last Sat. when a Lancaster County Swiss Cheese business with the house attached to the building caught fire. The house was a total loss and the business had water and smoke damage..........................................

Then on Thurs. night around 9:00pm we got called on a 2nd alarm barn fire south of Paradise on Blackhorse Road. 1/2 mile south of the Strasburg railroad tracks. When we arrived it was a pig barn fully involved. This barn was 40 ft wide and 600 feet long. It housed over 4000 pigs which perished in the fire. Everything was a total loss for the farmer................................

When you called today Dirt this is what was goin' on. A barn fire fully involved. The barn was full of tobacco and the farmer was down in the cellar stripping the tobacco leafs off the stalk and packing them up for shipment when the wood stove that heats the work area over heated. Dried tobacco burns like pourin' gas on a fire. What didn't help the firefighters was the wind. Very windy here today. Everthing was a total loss...............................

Hope it settles down for a bit..............................................
