i believe my dog had dreams. He would bark and move his legs while sleeping.

Yes, their eyes move around under their eyelids and their legs twitch. Ours would make soft whimpering sounds or very soft and short barks, almost like snorts.

BTW, don't disturb them when they are in a REM state (dream). They get very confused and sometime irritated. They may even start barking for real or snap at anything near by until they "come out of it" and are fully awake. We used to say they were chasing rabbits.

Oh yes, Ive seen dogs do that. Do you conclude that is evidence of their dreaming, then? Sounds plausible to me.

Ever hear the phrase: ""Let sleeping dogs lie."

I've looked enough dogs in the face to have concluded there is something going on in there. They appear to be making a judgment about their next move and who's looking at them.

Cats, of which I have had several , I'm not sure at all.

Horses puzzle me.i was told by a person displaying her horses at a County Fair that the reason we humans are able to mount them and have them work until they drop (a dog won't allow that , I've been told; they'll simply sit down) is that a horse's eyes/brain see us as large as they; thus, allowing domination.

I'm sure. Cats are the most judgemental of any species and they own you, and not the converse. They ignore you as being something less than worthy of their attention.

PBS Nature and Canada's Nature of Things (David Suzuki) did a three part series on the horse (Equus, The story of the Horse). PBS only showed parts one and three which is unfortunate because part two had some fascinating information on the development of man's association with the horse both in the past and with current "horse farmers" that have developed an almost symbiotic relationship with them. Parts of part two were further butchered and shown in an episode of Nova. Since PBS and CTV both funded the production they were allowed to show it as they saw fit. Since we live on within 30 miles of the border we got to see parts one and two on CTV Windsor and then saw the final episode (Ride the Wind) on PBS.

Horses can recognize up to seventeen human facial patterns and can "read" us. It is not necessary to "dominate" them if you can establish a trust relation ship. Native Americans seemed to learn this pretty quickly and were able to ride horses without bit/bridle or even saddles. The mongol warrior's were able to communicate with their mounts by shifting their body weight and using their thigh muscles. This free'd up their hands and arms to use their bows and arrows very effectively. The first installment did a segment on a 'horse whisperer that would make contact with "unbroken" horses and establish this relationship over the course of a couple of hours.

Horse communication is primarily by posture and ear positioning. Most humans don't even bother to try to learn. To some extent that is true with cats as well. Once you learn how to "read" a cat it is easier to understand what is going on. A cats ears and tail tell you a lot about how they feel or what's going on in their heads. Their pupillary response is also very important. Fully dilated pupils, ears flat back on their head and a twitching tail mean "leave me alone!".

You mean it's not in the crapper right now! These are the "good times"?

Every Democrat gets accused of that and then it doesn't happen. That accusation originates back with the gun manufacturers to bolster more sales by playing on fears that it might actually happen. Jut as you stated elsewhere - it's all about the money.

Obviously (1) he does not understand what communism is or what communists are; (2) he much prefers fascists; and (3) this has nothing at all to do with Murph's original question and topic which tends to illustrate several other sad observations.

I saw a movie about brine shrimp and their ability to sense danger. They had a large fish tank. Filled with brine shrimp. attached to the inside of the tank were leads from a multi meter. when music was played. the meter's needle would movie. Different music caused the shrimp to hit higher levels on the meter. when the guy doing the test would scream. The needle would go off the charts. The end conclusion. " Brine shrimp can sense danger and communicate with electrical pulses.

I was watching a show about instinct vs. actual intelligence that was focused on geese; pretty much demonstrated that what appeared to be learned behavior associated with intelligence was actually not that at all.
