Nearly set the old 1/2-ton Silverado down on her rear wheels, so I'll have to make a second trip for the rest. Spent the day stacking...liniment regimen tomorrow.

Is it my imagination, or is it easier to split green wood?

Depends on the wood - looks like you might have a bit of locust in that mix - lots of good unsightly bending and lifting operations!

It's a bit alarming how many dead red oaks there are in the woodlot. I have one in my yard, a 90+ year-old that's quite sickly. Seems there's a blight that's been hitting them for the last 30 years or so.

My neighbor has a dead English walnut on his property...should've come down a year ago. Now he's trying to sell the house and has this big dead tree in the yard. Not sure what he's thinking.

Big red oak just off the back of the garage - had a good bit of it trimmed this past summer, but I was out there looking at it last Sat. and now I'm wondering if I just should have had it taken down entirely. I'm slowly losing all the trees off the lot around me house and that was one of the reasons why we moved here.

I did see a forecast for possible "pole saw" blight later this Fall!

Sumac you pull - painful and long job clearing a few acres. Builds character

Mulberry you cut to a stump with a chain saw, and then cut a tic-tac-toe pattern in the stump with the saw, pour kerosene over and into the stump, and light it up after surrounding it with some bricks and dirt. Should be gone by the morning

The Sumac come from a limestone ridge between my neighbor and I. Most are not easily visible until they are too large to "yank", but I concur with your method. Said neighbor, let some on his side get 50-60 feet tall. He has a very nice patio with a hot tub, picnic table and a lot of seating. Add to all that, lighting effects and outdoor speakers. During a recent storm, one of those 50-60 footers broke off and flattened one of his speakers. Darn thing still plays! Neighbor is soliciting professional help.......tree trimmers, not counselling!!!

Healey You have a pile of wood, a few cans of paint and a rocking chair. Grab a pipe and pretend your in a Rockwell painting. Looks like a good retirement!

Yup. Every insect has to show its papers at the boarders of every county in the state. Yesterday, there were lot of dragonflies about. Today, none. They were without papers and deported.
