Curious to see if it was real or a scam.

Somebody got ripped-off, then. I mean, honestly, who cares if the car belonged to Bozo? For me, unless he was going to lay upon the hood as an ornament whenever and wherever the car was driven, he is irrelevant , as far as I concerned. :? But who cares. :? :P My opinion on this is irrelevant ! :D

It's just another case of someone with more money than brain cells buying. And the world is full of them. But then we have to look of the bright side. It helps in keeping the economy moving.

No, they didn't. No one (as far as we know) tricked the buyer, forced the buyer, deceived the buyer, induced the buyer to part with his or (her) money.

The buyer freely chose to buy this......not unlike the way many people buy rubbish with the name Lionel or MTH on a box. The next time you buy anything think about whether the name on the box contributed to your decision making.

BTW, there is a very serious circus collectable population and various museums that might want this item......

There is also a Circus Model Builders organization that I only recently was informed of its existence.

We'll know a little more in about 6 hours, as the same year and model car, only painted red, will be closing on the same site. I think for someone just wanting an old Lincoln (no clown heritage) a white car might be a little more jazzy, pimpy, ???, but who knows how people who chase these cars think. There were actually four (4) bidders chasing it the last few minutes and the difference between 4th and 1st was only $250.

I've heard that the overall market for old cars, of this circa and previous, is drying up, that the more contemporary generations (Generation Z, those born in 1995 or later = 26 % of the population; Millennials, which reached adulthood by 2000, for example) are not interested in having cars, at all, let alone from these older times. :?:

They don't attach the meaning to cars that the older generations have and continue to do. They also see cars as a burden; average cost to owning a car was ~$9k/year with all costs factored in. 20 years ago I have post-docs in my research group not bothering to own a car - Metro and rent a car when really needed.

That's what I've heard. Remarkable. So different from what my generation valued and still values.

I've had a dream my whole life, since I saw my first Rolls Royce, in the 60's, to own one someday, but that dream will not come to fruition (unless I win a lottery. )

If you visit this website there are a lot of older foreign and domestic cars bringing some BIG bucks. It is only certain cars, not all and it also seems to run in cycles. https://bringatrailer.com/auctions.

Compared to a year ago, I see some really good buys on recent and current listings for MGTD's & TF''s, big Austin Healeys, MG's, Triumph's, ect, etc. Old Porsches are still bringing big bucks. Old T-Birds are way down along with some other used-to-be collectables.

I'm sure it is the graying of the hobby in collectable cars too.....just like trains.
