Re: SOTU
I have lovely granddaughters for that.
Anyway, the early SOTU reports were letters delivered to the Congress. Notably, T Jefferson. The in-person reporting may not have been so painful until the TV cameras showed up.
I do like the idea of a PowerPoint presentation.

I heard in the News today that employment for African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans has improved decidedly during this past year. That is good news. Perhaps President Trump will pick up on that theme. And remember it the next day.
If he can continue to instigate (inspire?) that kind of economic growth, plus deal effectively with Rocketman, he may turn out to be the right guy in the right spot and moment in time. I hope. I guess we all hope so, huh.

Washington did one that lasted ~2 min. Originally, it was a very pro forma event of very little import or consequence as Congress really had control of the country.

Yes; a dark room in the evening full of old people snoring.......which is just about what the SOTU speech is really wroth after you distill it down to reality.
The owls may indeed not be what they seem but still serve an imperative function: they remind us to look into the darkness.

What booming economy would that be????? Our economy has been creeping upwards for about 6 years now and is still on inertial movement at best.

What's particularly funny to me is how so many people seem to think that the President of the United States has anything to do with any positive movement in any economy.

It reinforces the delusion while allowing them to participate in it?

Are we being just a tad cynical, or are we being well-informed? Huh?

It'll be interesting to see what GDP was for 2017 (after they make ump-dee-ump adjustments to it)...bet it rolls in around or below 2-1/2 percent, and I'll wager 2018 is no better. Remember, the GOP tax cut needs four percent annual growth in the out years to cap the cost at $1.3 trillion.

We'll never hear the truth anyway. Numbers have always been massaged to improve the sitting administration. Trouble is, I don't think Trump's administration is bright enough to massage them in the right direction.

Same with the unemployment and "jobs-created"...don't think we've had a truthful number in fifteen years, at least. Strange, they're always adjusted down and up respectively, lol...

I'll be a lot more interested in seeing what my tax bill is this year. That's a far better measure of reality that I can wrap my hands and brain around.

I remember when we were able to deduct the interest paid on loans and credit cards. That was a real loss when they did away with that practice. I wonder whatsumbich's idea it was to do that.
